Just bought a 2023 Durango SRT 392 and want to change out the brake pads to PowerStop Z23's front and rear. Did the same thing on my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT 392 and had my Dealership's Brake Tech do the installation and the burnishing. He said he 100% followed PowerStops installation and burnishing procure The new pads worked/stopped great and the dust was cut down significantly. But, after hitting 1,100 miles, the brakes started squealing very loudly when cold or wet. Very embarrassing when leaving my neighborhood or coming up to a stop light. Once the bakes warmed up, the high pitched squealing noice slowly dissipated. Anyway, I hate the dust from the brembo pads and want to change to the Z23's. I'm an older guy and am not physically able to do any of the work myself, so my question for you guys is where do you recommend I take my Durango to do the installation and burnishing procedure and do it correctly? Replies will be greatly appreciated because I really don't want a Dodge Dealer to do the work this time. Thanks!!

Whatever shop you use, make sure to have grease applied to the silver pad pins, as well as the ends of the pad backers where they contact the top and bottom of the caliper slot. I also put some on my backing plates just to make sure. I had to redo my rear pads because I had tried to go without grease and they started squealing just like you describe a few days later. I did the front pads with grease from the get go and so far so good... I actually used Brembo pads, and the instructions they came with indicated these locations for grease application in the packaging.

90% chance that the PS Z23's or Z26's are gonna squeal when cold, no matter who installs or burnishes them. I had 3 sets of squeaky Z26's on my 2019 DDSRT.

On my 2023 DDSRT...I am just leaving the factory pads. The dust doesn't show up as much on the Hyper black (aka "not really black") wheels as they it did on the darker wheels of my 2019.

FYI the pads are super-easy to swap...there are plenty of youtube videos on it. I take track pads on and off my Z06 (same front calipers as the DDSRT, and similar rears) about 4 times per year. Usually takes me under an hour, and that includes time to clean the calipers and the inside of the wheels.....

I wouldn't want any one but me to burnish the brakes, either. Then again, I have trust issues....

Finally someone else who dislikes Power Stop pads, I was beginning to think I was alone. I've switched to Carbotech 1521 pads. Much better performance in sub zero winters and still has good initial bite. The brake dust is slightly more than Power Stop, but significantly less than stock. The biggest negative is the price, but if we can afford these beasts we can afford to get them good parts.

Thank you for the detailed reply. After having the PS 23's on my last SRT 392, think I'll move on to something else. Really like the Bembo's, but the amount of dust is totally insane. I use a microfiber towel and wipe down my wheels EVERY DAY!! Do you know of any other aftermarket pads that I could try? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, you don't have ANY squealing with the Carbotech 1521 pads? How many miles have you been running them? Also, did you install/burnish yourself and have someone else do it. Thanks again for the info!!

Per Carbotech:

"Please note: The 1521 compound does NOT require bedding in. Put the pads on a clean rotor surface (like new) and drive normally for the first 300 – 400 miles. No special procedure is required. “JUST DRIVE THE CAR"

I installed them myself and did not bed them in as Carbotech advises above. I used Permatex 24125 Ceramic Extreme Brake Parts Lubricant for grease. I may get a brief faint squeal in sub zero temps if you slowly drag the brakes, but it goes away and once there's heat in them they are quiet. The are nowhere near as bad as the Power Stop z26. I've been running them for about 10k miles so far and couldn't be happier.

That's really good information!! Couple more questions. Did Carbotech recommend the Permatex 24125 Lubricant for grease or is that something you tried on your own? Also, where did you apply the grease? I like the fact that Carbotech doesn't require bedding in. I'm ordering a 2024 DD Hellcat (trading in my '23 SRT 392) and will have the Carbotech pads installed day 1. Thanks again for the information.

That grease recommendation came from the Corvette/Camaro forums where I learned about the Carbotech pads. That grease was highly recommended. As far as where I put it, I covered the entire back of the pads and the channels where they slide in the caliper. I did not lubricate the pins they slide on because the fit was pretty lose.

Spoke with Mike Jr. at Carbotech. He can hook me up with pads for my 2023 DD SRT392, but unfortunately not for the DD Hellcat. Brembo changed the front pads on the 2023 Hellcat and Carbotech does not offer those at this time. He said maybe in a few months, but no promises. So, if I get the Hellcat, not sure what to do about pads because I know the PS Z23 or Z26 are going to squeal and I can't accept that. Also can't live with the crazy amount of brake dust from the Brembos. You got any other suggestions for replacing the Hellcat pads?

Does this mean the brembos on the '23 DDHC are different from the 21's?

I think you need to double check that with a dealer. I browsed several of the online Mopar parts stores as well as rock auto. The Mopar part number for OEM pads is 68507583AB for two piece front brakes on 2021+ Durango SRT's with that option and all 21+ Hellcats

Thanks for the reply. Was just relaying what Mike Jr. from CT told me. Said the front pad change occurred on the 2023 DD Hellcat, but I'll do some more research.

FYI I recall that I had some "brake dust repellent" spray that I used to use on my old CTSV wheels (they also came with dusty Brembo brakes). It worked pretty well at keeping the dust off....but as I recall it only lasted a couple of weeks and had to be re-applied. Might have been an armor-all or Meguiers product. Will have to rummage around my basement to see if I still have a can.....

2022 DDSRT with 29,000 miles. I went in for service today and they mentioned I was going to need brakes by spring time. They quoted me $5,500 for parts and labor and I knew going in tires and brakes weren’t going to be cheap.

I also went with the optional 2 piece front rotors when I built the truck.

Recommendations on what to check out maybe links to good, better, best options.

I appreciate your input, TIA!

If you are looking to change the pads and rotors check out Demon Performance. Front rotors: 2-pc floating $1679, Rear rotors: 2-pc floating $1269, Front pads: $630, and Rear pads: $495. Plus they gave a $203 discount. Unfortunately Powerstop doesn't make rotors for DD SRT or HC

The demon stuff is nice quality for sure! No question there!

When I had my track hawk, I picked up the DB rotor rings. I think I got them for $750 and they reuse the centre hub. They worked so well. When my new units go, I'll use them again but thus far, they are still in perfect shape. The trick is to remove the stock brembo pads. They are super hard on the rotors and chew them up in no time.

I used the power stop pads on it and they were a complete POS. Never again. I switched to Porterfield RS-4 pads and they were fantastic.

When I got my Durango Hellcat, I pulled the stock brembo dusters in the first week I had it and put the Porterfield pads in and have had them for a year now with no issues. Great stopping power, low dusting and no noise.

I have the Power Stop Brake pads on my DD392 and they were installed 2 years ago and still going strong. No noise, and brake dust is lil to none.
