The time has come for me to start to consider if i should get rid of the Durango. The transmission has been acting up for awhile now and its high mileage doesn't help either. It has been quite a eventful year with the Durango, needing a radiator replacement, then a dealer broke my fan and made me pay to replace it that was over $1500, wheel bearing replacement, all new brakes and calipers several plate lights (that still are out), new tires, full transmission service (still slips and grinds and is extremely annoying to drive like this), and now needs a new e brake cable that they wanted to charge me 3k for, and it needs a tpms sensor. I have come to the realization this car is not worth as much as i have put into it and I believe that this car will continue to break no matter how much money i sink into it. With it nearing 200k I'm thinking of trading it in for a 3 series or similar that's a little better on gas. Not the post i wanted to make but maybe it's time. I will also add that the engine sounds like it makes a ticking noise at idle (even when its warm) that I'm afraid could be the engine going out next. Keep in mind this car has a blue book value for private party under 10k

Yes, my rule is when the repairs exceed the value of the vehicle, time to move on.
That comes quicker if you're paying someone to repair vs doing the labor yourself.
I'm just over 180K now in my 2014 Hemi so not liking the sound of the trans having an issue. I plan to do a trans pan/filter/fluid change over the holiday but I do not have any shifting issues.
I have had to do a few repairs once it got over 150K. AC condenser/radiator/waterpump and wheel bearings I did myself. Oil pan gasket and engine mounts I paid the dealer...$1,200 which I thought was fair given the work that was involved.
I have been happy that all the electronics have been stellar and none of the lux features have failed...and my family gives it a workout too! Still some disappointment in the accessories and honestly a bit pissed at myself for not buying the lifetime warranty back when I had the chance for $2,500.
Overall, least reliable Chrysler product of the 4 I've owned. :(

Well as soon as I can I am going to be rebuilding the trans in an 01 with 314k on it.
I'm waiting for my work to pay me the back pay and implement the raise that they agreed to 3 months ago to be able to get the funds for the parts.(unions aren't what they once were regarding forcing enforcement of stated agreement, story for later)
I don't care what some book says it might be worth. I have had this Durango for over 10 years, it's still in better shape than most it's age on the market, meaning I'm not downgrading to one with more rust..... I know every nut and bolt that has been touched, (because I'm the one who's done it) which I would be starting from scratch with a different one/ I don't care about book values because I'm not looking to fix it to sell. I'm fixing it to continue using.
It pulls my camper like it isn't there when all is right... Better than my '12 1/2 ton that has the supposed later, better version of the 4 7 that's SUPPOSED to have more HP than my 360 but the 360 in my 01 is definitely noticeably better at it/ even with the Durango's shorter wheelbase. I will be the last owner of it before the junkyard gets it, and I will be pulling parts from it that I know the history of/ and that I can use on other vehicles I own, before the junkyard gets it.
Once I get it back on the road I am not sure whether this 01 or the recently gotten 03 will be our "spare". It's never taken me this long to do such a repair but prices have never been where they currently are either. If I wasn't capable of doing the job myself things might be different.
