Hi, newbie question. I just drove a Durango RT Plus, and enjoyed it, but would like a little more horsepower, just for fun not drag racing. The SRT costs about $25,000 more. Would it be better to just buy the RT Plus and install a supercharger for$10,000?

Maybe a low mileage SRT with factory warranty would fit the bill?
SRT vs R/T is a bit more then a little horsepower difference. 115 ponies to be exact, the suspension, transmission, programming, Brakes, SRT features etc.

I suggest you drive the SRT and see if that fits the bill...

FYI The SRT vs R/T in my neck of the woods was $30K+ Not worth it in my opinion...

yes, they can be 30k+ more. i'm just driving around town mostly. not sure i'd even notice the other upgrades. no srt's in tucson. i'd have to go to phoenix to even test drive one.

AZ great place! Nephew graduated from University of AZ "Bear Down"

Try the SRT and then make an educated decision.

I am planning after 3/36 warranty expires installing some type of power adder... ($30K in a 5% long term CD = having 1/2 of a S/C in 3 years.) LOL

Go Wildcats. Playing Purdue this weekend.:)

The SRT models are also theft magnets. The regular 5.7L and 3.6L not so much. If you live in a rough area, you might not get to enjoy it very long.

Youd pay $30, 000 more for all that?
You can find them cheaper. My RT Premium Blacktop RWD stickered at $62,335, but you can find SRT Premium AWD in the $86 range sticker. There are lots of examples on truecar.com around $86k-87k. 0-60 in 4.1 plus the handling, breaking etc. to go along with the acceleration would be a ton of fun for that extra $24k

Common physics. Power to weight ratio.

Both have the same HP/TQ. Yet TNG has front differential, axles, transfer case, bigger brakes and tires & rims. It weighs a hell of a lot more than an R/T.

For those that have raced before… every 100lbs equals a tenth in the quarter mile.

If your towing YES if not then the TNG is waste in my opinion.

Let’s not forget the TNG is slower than the R/T!
Couldn't be happier with the Tow n Go pkg I wasted my money on!

I'm looking at a new RT Plus for $50,000
Before jumping onto an SRT bandwagon especially since you are tooling around town, simply use Sport Mode on the R/T. Turns the R/T into a different animal, seriously.

I did. I like the exterior and interior colors (white with black interior/red stitching)of the RT plus I test drove, and the RT Plus was a lot of fun to drive as it was. Thinking I can go with it, and if I want more horsepower later I can always add a supercharger for a lot less. $50,000>$80,000, not a bad price.
