So around the 250,000 mile check-up, the dealer felt the (twice replaced) water pump was leaking again, plus the radiator was also leaking. Got those replaced, now fast forward 3 more trips to Panama City Beach, and 23,xxx miles. During a recent oil change their inspection noticed both Front axle boots were torn. Called MaxCare, boom job approved. We were told they were ordered, and they would call us when they come in. A week go by, no call, so I decides to call. I was told they were not there. I wait 15 minutes, and call for parts, and try to buy a set. Parts guy said they have 3, but only 1 available, 2 on hold.

I'm patient, I wait 2 days later, and ask for my Service guy, and he put me on hold for a good 3 minutes, and comes back, and say, I am in luck, they just arrived that afternoon, when can I schedule. All said and done a week later and we pick up, and pay the MaxCare deductible. 3 days later we hear a "roaring sound" which picks up faster as we increase speed. I cannot see anything under the hood. I call dealer, and they have no advice. A week later, I spot a little oil/tranny spot in driveway, about the size of a golf ball. 2 days later the spot now is the size of a softball, and now I crawl under and where the spot is located, it's directly below where the (P) side axle go into the tranny. I call the dealer, and notify them, and was told they are 2 weeks behind for a inspection/diagnose. I schedule, for 3 days out, and this time the spot has gotten the size of a volleyball, oh yeah, and by the way the roaring has gotten worse. So, I think I found the roar under the hood, and I can see a ton of what looks like bearing rust, or dust from brushes in the alternator all over the front cooling fins on the alternator. The alternator pulley is wobbling, just a tiny bit.

We stop driving it and have USAA tow it in. This was Monday the 20th. So far the dealer has it, and I spoke with the main branch service manager about the axle work. Should I fork over another deductible for the axle leaking, and What about the alternator? How come they didn't notice this while replacing the water pump? I was told, they have 65 cars needing attention/diagnosed. They got hit all of a sudden with work, but during the summer they were slow, and now low staff. You may get ahead of some he said, we will try and get it in, "if" it's a re-work . Uuuugh, good grief, I googled AWD suv axles, and some people say, both front, and back splines has to be in sync. This one is out of my scope.

Sure sounds like a "busy" situation. If there is an issue that was recently repaired, I feel that would be covered under the warranty for that repair. If there is new stuff, they have the right to ask for another deductible. A more friendly dealer may not.

I have heard, and read this on the Forum. I wonder if they will get the Alternator added to the order? For sure I will still have to pay for that work. The busy holidays are here, and she has to drive one of the older vehicles. I was surprised the receipt for the axle work was $19xx.xx. Fingers crossed.

If your dealer does good work, pay the second deductible with a smile.

Vince:
They have always done good work, and I haven't had any issues so far. That is until the tranny started leaking. Being short staffed is another story. I do know customers has been unhappy with the dealer not having any loaner cars. The service adviser did mention no loaners. Word is, The sales department sold all of the loaner cars over the summer.

Yep, word is, the sales department was low on inventory, and during the summer started selling the 15, or 20 vehicles set aside as loaners. To my understanding these are what we know as "Demonstrators", and are sold as such. After the driveshaft job was done, Dodge contacted us by email for a survey, which they always do. A couple of the questions were related to a loaner vehicle. We gave all no's, and low scores. Our service guy contacted me, he didn't seen too happy. I told him the wife completed the survey, and there wasn't any loaners. It's not your fault no loaners were available. If any customers, for any industry are a "tiny bit" frustrated, they are going to fill out all survey's accordingly.

Hey Methodites. What engine do you have in Durango? And issues with exhaust manifolds yet? I have 140,000 miles on my 2016 RT and also have the maxcare. Going in next week a new driveshaft and gonna check on the ex manifolds. They were replaced at 70,000 miles. Good to hear your getting good use out of the Maxcare!

We have the 3.6, and she has been lovely for us. She has had her share of problems, but I can knock on wood, nothing has been really serious. She purr's, and on I-40 running back, and forth to Panama City Beach, she runs with the best of them. No exhaust issues, although, we do have a fairly brand new exhaust system from the manifolds back. @ around 165,000 the wife was rear ended by a city taxi. Nothing serious, they replaced the rear bumper cover, and the exhaust got bent. We were told they were replacing the entire system. Our same dealer got that insurance job. Maybe that's why no exhaust issues? Yes, MaxCare has done us great. We look forward to keeping her, and pushing her for awhile.

How is the body. Any rust? Any paint chips aluminium corrosion on the hood?
Fisc:
No rust here in Oklahoma. No salty wind blown air from salted roads. Suspension feels great, body runs inline great. 2nd, and 3rd set of tires added, both Alignment shops didn't even charge me, they had it for maybe 15 minutes, and returned it to me. Paint chips? Nurses do not have time to go grocery shopping, for a Walmart buggy to hunt this Citadel. I will tell you this, other than the mileage she still looks, and shines like a new one. Garage kept @ home, and garage parked in a hospital garage. Still looks new on the inside, every car she's had as a daily driver has always looked good inside and out. I have to tell the sales department no, no, and no lol. Will we buy again sure, When, and only when MaxCare is offered to us again. We will buy a Grand Wagoneer, other than that, we will be keeping her. Newest goals are set, 500k. I feel like this: For the number of miles on her, and the previous work under MaxCare, the miles versus the MaxCare work has been a match. No low mileage, MaxCare abuse. Service people told me, they would get in a 2016 Durango with barely 100k to 125k, and it would look 10 years old, and has bloated MaxCare for work. Our MaxCare work has closely been inline with our mileage, and no questionable abuse, or mistreatment.

That's cool that the Maxcare worked out for you. I hope to get 250,000 miles on mine too. If ya got a pic of her. I'd love to see what it looks like.

Update:
My service adviser called around 7pm, and we spoke about the repairs. The Citadel rolled into the shop this evening around 430 today. We went over the inspection report.
Concern: COVERED BY LIFETIME MAX CARE WARRANTY CUSTOMER STATES THE SEAL ON AXLE IS LEAKING
Cause: FRONT AXLE RIGHT OUTPUT SEAL LEAKING, LIKELY DUE TO VERY HIGH MILEAGE AND SEAL BEING DISTURBED DURING PREVIOUS REPAIRS. SEAL NEEDS REPLACEMENT
Correction: REPLACE FRONT AXLE RIGHT OUTPUT SEAL LOP 02602702
I mentioned to him, why wasn't the seals removed, and replaced during the original job. He said MaxCare only pays to replace the axle. I asked, so are you telling me MaxCare is going to specifically state to not replace the seals, as part or a (R) and (R) job for axles. I asked during the pickup, did they do the seals, oh I'm sure they did. Sounds horsey to me, why would MaxCare support a 1/2 a$$ job costing them more money to redo a job. This dealer has been really great, but as I mentioned earlier, lately they have had a few returns on repairs. I was told about a couple service maintenance they recommend (trying to sell me), which is nothing really important at the moment. Seriously dude, I have a left side old seal on a new axle. Talk about the feeling of sloppy work Ugghh. The order time, and install for the alternator has been scheduled out to Dec 26.

Methiod:
Sadly, this is the way a lot of warranty entities do business. In such a case, one would HOPE they would observe that said seal was problematic during the needed repair, and either find a way to get it included, or come back to you recommending the replacement. In such a case, I would gladly pay for the seal, but expect there to be no labor charge since they are right there to begin with.

That would be "good business and common sense" though, which is harder to come by with every passing day.

Don: exactly. I have been called several times to have user replacement parts installed during the button up. Both the water pump jobs, I paid for the flush, and new fluid, and added a new serpentine belt. Like you said, they're right there to begin with, no labour should be charged. Had, I thought about, or they called me about the seals I would have gladly accepted. So by the way, a update on the alternator. I called around a few Mopar dealers, within 250 (m). A dealer has the alternator. A quick call to the parts manager, and the national register shows this dealer has two. Parts manager called me, and said the alternator will be in Tuesday. Moma's ears stood up ;). By the way, that alternator @ local part house's is 400.00 plus.
