This is what I did with the zAuto bypass module. It’s been working fine for AlfaOBD.
ahhh ok sorry...its thanksgiving in Canada and Ive had a few pops 😆 thats the pre 2018 charger/challenger bypass method

So I guess the 2018+ durangos dont need the "double bypass" which is what the 2018+ charger/challengers require, which is essentially a wire harness for an obd port that you jack into a can bus connector bus in the trunk..unless its a completely different product but looks the same initially..

Im going to try the double bypass on the TnG when I get a chance, or maybe talk to ZAuto about it since I have a line of contact open currently with the beta testing🙏🏼
I know I can find a canbus opening somewhere 😇

No worries.

So I made some more attempts today. I reset "Is Vehicle an SRT" back to "Yes", again with no issue. Then I did a reset of the uConnect by holding in the power button until it rebooted. Still no SRT tab.

Then I shut it down and let it sleep. Woke it back up and had both the SRT splash on bootup, as well as the little SRT logo on the Vehicle app icon, again ... but still showing the "Performance" tab instead of the "SRT" tab in the Vehicle app.

So I did another radio reboot by holding in the power button, still no luck.

Then I went through a 2nd sleep cycle and tried all the above again, still no luck.

Then I disconnected the battery for 10 mins, and reconnected. Power on, no change. Reset of radio, no change.

Then I executed the "ECU Reset" option within Alfa's "car configuration" section. The electrical system in the car blipped off and back on, and I got the "Completed" message in Alfa ... still no luck though. Did another power cycle and radio reboot, still no luck.

So I tried to change the Chassis Type parameter again from 103 to 102, but got the same message from Alfa telling me I am trying to change a parameter to a value which it is already set.

I'm at a loss here. Not sure what to try next. It seems everything is set how it should be except I can't get the uConnect GUI to show me the SRT tab instead of the Performance tab.

Just to reiterate, when the "Is Vehcicle an SRT" parameter is set to "Yes", none of the surface drive mode buttons function. So the Track, Sport, Snow, Tow and Eco mode buttons are all non-functional. I imagine this is probably a good sign as the BCM would be setup for the SRT and/or Launch buttons instead.

So I wonder if I got a HVAC control panel from a Hellcat and swapped it out, if the SRT surface button would cause the SRT dashboard to pop up? If so, then the Tazer should allow it too when the parameters are set to how I have them. It would be interesting to know what message the SRT button sends across the bus, and if there's a way to spoof that message from Alfa, just to see if it would cause the SRT dashboard to pop up.

Anyone know if that is possible?

@Sykadelick ... I'm anxious for you to try the Tazer. If it doesn't work out of the box, do you have AlfaOBD? I wonder if making the changes I've made with Alfa, followed up with a Tazer to try and activate the SRT dashboard, would work?

Or ... if anyone in the Central Texas area has a Tazer ... happy to meet up and give it a try?

The only 2 things I can think of to try, and haven't yet, is to do a factory reset of the uConnect and an ABS calibration.

I haven't done the factory reset mainly because I don't think it'll work and I don't want to reset all of my wife's profile settings and media presets. But if that's the missing piece, I'll of course do it.

I haven't done the ABS calibration because I'm not getting any ABS errors or warnings, and I haven't been able to change the Chassis Type. But I wonder if there's something to the calibration when "Is SRT" is set to "Yes" which would be different? I also haven't done the ABS calibration yet becasue it's not clear to me how it's done. I have a support message off to Alfa, just waiting for a reply. Asking them to clarify this procedure.

Message to AlfaOBD said:
Reading the instructions, it states to run 4 procedures in a certain order:

Image

I see 3 of the 4 steps in the dropdown (my vehicle is equipped with a G-force sensor) and I can clear the DTCs as well (my vehicle does have ESC):

Image

But the description doesn’t say if the actual “ABS Initialization” selection itself should be done before or after the other 4 steps outlined in the description.

Is the "ABS Initialization" entry here just an informative screen and there's no process to actually run when it is selected in the drop down? So do I just follow the instructions and execute the 4 steps manually (selecting each in the drop down and clicking "start", one after the other) and I don't need to do anything with the ABS Initialization option itself being selected?

Or, do I select "ABS Initialization" from the dropdown and then click "Start", and Alfa will execute the 4 steps for me automatically?

Or do I need to do the 4 steps myself, and then after those are done I select “ABS Initialization” and click “Start” as the 5th step?

Or maybe I run the “ABS Initialization” 1st, and then execute the 4 steps afterward?

I'm sure it's a simple thing and I'm probably over complicating this, but it's just not clear to me from the description text on how to execute it and I want to be sure I get it correct.

Thanks again!
If anyone knows the answer to the above, I can give this a shot just to rule it out.

Another interesting bit with the buttons, in the charger the sport and super track pack buttons on the lower trims dont work if you change to SRT, but you can remap them apparently anything.

I dont currently have alpha setup. But I think the issue is the UC5 radio. its wildly different than the cars UAQ and some of these settings must be changing something in the radio for pages to show up or not...

While I wait for AlfaOBD to respond to my request about why it won't let me change Chassis Type from 103 to 102, I decided to look around for an SRT/Hellcat HVAC control panel which has the SRT and Launch buttons on it.

I found one on eBay, from a 2022, which looks to be in great shape for $100 ... so I grabbed it.

Image

I figure if getting the SRT Dashboard to work for drive modes and launch control means the TnG drive mode surface buttons won't be functional anymore ... I may as well swap the panel and get the SRT and Launch buttons instead.

There appears to be two versions of this panel, one with the lane keeping button (far right button) and one without. Since my TnG is the "Premium" trim, I needed one with the lane keeping button.

Anyone know how much effort is involved in swapping it out? It looks like just the leather trim above the panel needs to be removed, and if I remember correctly, I read somewhere it is only held in with push clips. So I think that means I can just pull it straight out to remove it and gain access to the mounting bolts for the HVAC panel.

So I tried some more things tonight.

1st I set "Vehicle is an SRT" back to "Yes". Then ... Because Alfa won't let me write Chassis Type 102, I instead wrote Chassis Type 1, which I got from a 2017 Durango GT BCM log. Then went through a sleep cycle. As expected, I got an ABS error.

Then I wrote 102, and it took. Went through 2 sleep cycles and a soft reset of the uConnect (by holding the power button). I didn't get any errors, but also didn't get the SRT tab. Took it for a drive to run an errand and came back home.

I decided to pull a BCM log, and it was showing Chassis Type 103, not 102 as I had written? Strange ... So I went through the process of writing 1, then 102 again and came up with the same result. It still shows 103 in the log.

So on a hunch, I wrote Chassis ID 101 (no idea what this one is). After a sleep cycle, I got all sorts of errors on the DIC. ABS, FCW, Trailer brake system, etc, etc ... But I pulled a BCM log and it was showing 102, not 101.

It seems Alfa is incrementing the value by one for some reason?

So I thought, since the log is matching what I see in the Hellcat's log, maybe I just need to do an ABS initialization.

Here are the instructions for that:

Image

So based on the instructions, I went to do the "Static ECU Initialization", but it failed

Image

So I wrote value 102 back in as Chassis Type and went through a sleep cycle. The log shows 103 again (incremented by 1), and all errors are cleared.

I went ahead and did the ABS initialization process just for good measure and am going to turn "Vehicle is an SRT" back off for the night.

No real progress today, but I did learn a few things. Weird that AlfaOBD is incrementing Chassis ID by 1 for these values in the 100's.

I'd like to try Chassis Type for a 392 SRT instead of a Hellcat, but can't seem to find anyone who will share a BCM log from a 392 SRT. Hopefully someone will be kind enough ...

I'd send these details to Alfa about the incrementing by 1 issue, but I already have two emails into them with questions to which they haven't responded yet. So I'll hold off for now.

Im reading through ZAuto's documentation, its hard to read and hard to follow in spots lol. have you seen a setting for "drv mode"? apparently setting this enables SRT Pages on RT scat and up cars but STP pages on the gt/sxt etc

Yes, there are several settings for Drive Mode. The primary one, "Drive mode feature configuration" is enabled on a Tow & Go by default and so is "Transmission Drive Mode Feature Present". I'm pretty sure this is what enables the Track, Sport, Tow and Snow drive modes.

I did enable "Memory Drive Mode Sub-feature Configuration" as well as "ESC Drive Mode Sub-Feature Configuration". I believe these are the ones which allow customization of the different features for the drive modes within the SRT dashboard.

Still not getting the SRT dashboard to display in uConnect though.

I think the issue here is the uConnect itself, and not the BCM. The one thing I haven't tried yet is a factory reset of it. I'll probably try that some evening this week, when I have time to write down all my wife's settings and presets, so I can put them back for her. It took her a while to set everything up and I'd hate for her to have to go through all that again.

I know in previous versions of uConnect, you could access the dealer menu and backup the config to a USB stick. But I can't seem to find any information on how to access engineering or dealer menus in the uConnect 5.

No sure if this works or helps but this is how the guys on the CT forum reset/reboot their latest radios.

Thanks, I've been holding just the "Volume" knob to do a forced reset, but will try holding both "Volume" and "Tune" as explained in that post.

I recently was dealing with radio issues and during troubleshooting, I found that the factory reset, pulling the fuse under the seat, and disconnecting the neg for the entire vehicle all resulted in different outcomes/progress. I personally don't understand why pulling the fuse and disconnecting the neg doesn't have the same result.

Pulling the fuse is the most effective option. Factory reset seems to only touch personal user input like looks, favs, Bluetooth, and the like.

If I had to speculate on the neg vs fuse difference. My only guess is that somewhere there is just enough residual power to survive a short-term power loss. Neg off for a few hours didn't do anything but when I had the batteries out for about a day the radio did fully reset. Another reason I think it is a residual power thing is in a different issue I found out that disconnecting both +/- and then touching them together for a bit is a thing you do for resetting other systems. Makes sense as with computers if you are going to change anything out after you disconnect the power you then need to hold the power button for 5-10sec to dissipate the "plea" power.

Thanks for the input. Are you referring to the in-line fuse which is taped up next to the battery, under the passenger's seat?

I can see how pulling the fuse would allow for the uConnect unit to fully drain, as there is most likely a power circuit through the HVAC panel which would drain any capacitance stored in the radio (much like holding the power button on a PC when it's been unplugged).

I actually tried to pull that fuse at one point, but it is really stuck inside the holder. I even grabbed a pair of smooth jaw needle nose pliers to assist and it still wouldn't come out. I'll take another look at it though.

The HVAC panel with the SRT and Launch buttons is scheduled for delivery today, so it'll be a good time to try some new things :)

So today I re-enabled "Vehicle is an SRT", then went through 2 sleep cycles, and then tried resetting the radio by holding both the Volume and Tune buttons in. This had the same result as prior ... still seeing "Performance" tab in the Vehicle app and not the "SRT" tab.

So then I removed the radio fuse in the battery compartment, and left it out for 5 mins or so. Reinstalled it, and turned the car on. Still the same result. So I tried another reset by holding both buttons in, still same result.

Then I took pics of all my wife's profile settings, and did a factory reset. The radio seems to still be rebuilding things, as not all apps are showing up yet. At 1st, the Vehicle app only showed two tabs ... Controls and Settings. So I went into Apps, and found the performance pages, and hit that. It took me to the Performance page screen. So then I went to the "Vehicle" app and now I'm seeing 3 tabs, but it's still the Performance tab and not the SRT tab :(

I can see the radio is still rebuilding things though, as I don't see several apps which were there before. But seeing the Performance tab appearing isn't giving me a good feeling that the SRT tab will show.

The new HVAC panel is out for delivery, so my last shot will be to see if the hard button will launch the SRT dashboard or not. If not, the only other thing I can think to do is get the Chassis ID from an SRT 392 and try that ... but I'm still having no luck getting an SRT 392 owner to post up a BCM log from AlfaOBD.

The wife and I discussed going to a dealer to test drive an SRT, and grab a log on the drive. But I think it would be weird to ask the salesman to not come with us, and also to be climbing into the vehicle with a laptop LOL!

If anyone knows someone with a Durango SRT 392, I sure would appreciate any help in sourcing a BCM log ...

I wonder if I need to turn "Super Track Pack Present" off, as it's not enabled in the Hellcat log. Maybe STP is overriding the SRT tab with the Performance tab?

When I initially tried turning it off, I got FCW warnings. Maybe I need to do an ABS calibration afterward though.

Sport Mode is also turned off in the Hellcat log.

I suppose if the hard buttons don't work, I can try disabling these two features and running an ABS calibration to try and clear the errors.

Yes, the impossible fuse under the seat. Don't be afraid to cosmetically damage the little bugger with ribbed pointy nose pliers... Who is gonna see it?

That is where the Bluetooth link comes into play. Don't even have to take it for a drive, just be checking things out really closely to put on the scanner as pulling it out should be super quick.

Or...

All the dealers I have been to let me keep it overnight for an extended test drive.

With the second R/T that I test drove this year, the salesperson was busy with another deal. He handed me the key fob and said "Look for me when you bring it back." Probably the only time that being a "responsible-looking" senior citizen got me anything other than the senior price at my local Chinese buffet. ;)

Yeah, maybe I'll have to do something like that. I just know there are SRT owners who use AlfaOBD though.

So I connected the HVAC panel with the SRT and Launch buttons just a minute ago, and the buttons don't do anything when pressed :(

The traction , lane keeping, park assist all work, but not the SRT and Launch.

I think it's because the uConnect still isn't showing the SRT dashboard screen. I'm going to try disabling Sport and STP and see what happens.

So no luck when disabling STP and Sport.

Disabling Sport is no issue, but when disabling STP I get ABS and FCW errors. I tried ABS Initialization, but it didn't clear them.

So I re-enabled STP and left Sport disabled ... but still did not get the SRT dashboard to appear and the SRT + Launch buttons are still non-functional.

It's looking like maybe the Chassis Type for a 392 SRT might be the missing piece ...

For now, I put the TnG HVAC panel back in and disabled SRT again. Not sure I can make any more progress without a BCM log from an SRT.
