My 2018 Durango R/T has just over 70k miles & have codes po733, p1da8, p1d92. Took it to Dodge & they got back to me today saying it needs a new transmission. Quoted just over $7,400.
Says a rebuild would just be maybe $100 cheaper than a new trans.
I bout the durango used at 32k & an extended 36k warranty. Thinking the extended warranty would start after manufactures 36k & be good to 72k total, but evidently it was up at 68k & I'm at 70k.

Is that the going rate for a new trans? Is there a better option out there? I'm pretty pissed to be putting a new transmission in at 70k, especially when these are sealed transmissions & no maintenance is to be done to them.

Apparently you didn't read the fine print in your warranty. What are your symptoms? You are close to the ZF recommended trans oil change at 75-80K so that might be what's needed to begin with, but again, what are the symptoms of a problem?

I definetly didn't look at the start mileage of the extended warranty on paper. It was said verbally it would start at 36k. That part is on me for not looking & signing.

Symptoms started with trans being stuck in 3rd gear (Trans limp mode) & wouldn't shift into any other gear untill you restarted the vechicle. Did that a couple of times. Once restarted it seemed to drive fine. Now it has a problem going into reverse. Put it in reverse & it just flashes. Couple tries later it may engage but do so with a clunk.

It's a risk of a costly service but I would try the fluid and filter change first. That will set you back about $6-700, partly because it's a very labor intensive service due to the convoluted way you have to fill it. Yes, it's expensive but it's about $1000 at a dealer. Otherwise you may just have a bad valve body or a bad module on it. My understanding is that it's tough to find a transmission shop that works on these and also that no one appears to rebuild them, but you should try to find a local shop that could help you.

Uuugh.. yep, I would have assumed the same thing.... Why would I be buying 'extended coverage' when my current coverage is running in unison of the extended....

My car has the exact same issue. The day after my wedding, while traveling back to the venue, i was traveling around 55-60 mph when the transmission shifted to 3rd gear and stayed there. I pulled over and could not get it out of 3rd gear. Vehicle has no reverse and makes a whinning noise when attempting reverse. Vehicle will go into drive and shift fine from 1st through 3rd gears, when attempting to shift from 3-4, vehicle feels as if its in neutral, then sticks in 3rd gear. AAMCO stated i needed a rebuild (long story short, i know they did not look at the vehicle) and another shop stated i needed a new transmission. I don't believe that to be the issue as i had zero indications of transmission problems before.

Please be sure to keep the forum updated as my only vehicle is sitting useless. I will post any updates as well.

Sorry for your luck here. What brand is the extended warranty? It's true that Dodge considers the 8 speed a no maintenance item, but those of us here know that is false economy. Dealers in general are shying away from doing a real diagnosis, because all they want to do is swap assemblies at your expense, with the warranty on the rebuilders shoulders.

Do you have a good relationship with your local dealer, and did you buy the D there? It is quite ridiculous to be putting a new trans into a vehicle as this young age and mileage.

They have an incorrect or lightweight scanner or the TCM might be bad. Don't they know how the DD works? They only need to log into their diagnostic software subscription to troubleshoot it. If the electronics stay haywire after they disconnect then you could be needing a new battery.

Yes, it could. Plus it would trigger all sorts of electrical gremlins. If you haven't replaced it in a few years you should do that.

BD66:
At a minimum, get the battery tested and replace if it comes back less than 100%. Either way, when you go to put a battery back in, leave the terminals off, depress the brake pedal 30 seconds, then reconnect and start it. If it will idle, let it idle for 5 minutes without touching anything. If all seems well, go for a drive and see what you have.

You should type this in your native language and then have google translate it for you. Also, put proper punctuation in so it makes more sense.
