I know this is an old thread, but this seems to be a common problem with the Durango. Our 2017 5.7L recently had a CEL with codes P0456 and P0440. Dealer found a couple of leaks and replaced the purge valve, purge hose and ESIM switch. I was told this is not covered by the emissions system warranty, but my MaxCare warranty covered the repairs (with a copay). So far the CEL has not come back.

TxV8:
Thanks for adding the info/remedy to the situation you had. As our Durangos age, we will all have some issues come along. I'll bet you are happy you opted for the MaxCare. IMO, it's the best deal going for our Dodge products.

I have the same issue. Popped up about a week ago. PO456. Obviously not a major issue but the damn thing won't remote start with a CEL. It's 90 something degrees here in Jersey and I wish I could auto start. But I don't want to take her in till I need an oil change. BTW mine is an 18 RT with about 34000 miles. Tried to clear the code but it won't let me.

I had the same code (EVAP system small leak) on my wife's 16 with the 3.6. I was really anxious about it, I hate tracing vacuum lines. It went off on it's own, I really think it's the capless fuel adapter. I don't think it was sealing properly. It hasn't come back on since. Maybe try pushing down on the flap and wiggling it a bit.

But maybe the law has changed

After 2/24k (until 8/80k) the only things covered under the federal emissions warranty are catalytic converters and ecm.

Just posted in a other thread but came across this one also. I have a 2017 Durango R/T with about 70,000 miles. The check engine light came on a few weeks ago. The fault code was the same here, P0456 code (small leak detected in EVAP system). We didn't notice any performance loss though. The vehicle went to the dealership and I believe the ESIM was replaced. Days later, the light came back on. It again went to the dealer and this time they found a crack in the filler neck. A couple days ago, the light again came back on. Today, the dealership called me and said they can't find anything wrong, but they can't seem to clear the fault code and keep it from coming back. They asked me if I wanted to keep trying to resolve this, and I said yes. It didn't seem right to take the car back and drive it around with the check engine light on. Has anyone here found other solutions?

2014 Durango EVAP Leak Problem fixed. I replaced the EVAP selenoid. No help still getting P0456 and P0440. Had a smoke test done - no leaks. I purchased an ESIM and gasket from the dealer and replaced it myself. Very easy swap out. Cleared the code myself and it hasn't come back on. Remote start working again just before winter- nice.

The ESIM on my 2014 Durango Citadel is located in the driver side rear of the rear wheel well. Below and to the rear of the gas filler door. No need to take the wheel off. Pull the tabs on the wheel well liner (only 3) and push the liner out of the way. Twist the ESIM off, unplug the hose and electical line - reconnect the new one (with new gasket) and twist it back on. NOTE: the ESIM for a 2014 Dodge Durango is located in the Driver's side rear wheel rear side of the wheel well. Very easy to get at and replace.

Attached to the back of the Purge valve located on the drivers side of the intake manifold, at the bottom, you will find a hard metal pipe, and a CHEAP PLASTIC fitting at the front of it. Mine was cracked, I taped it and reset the code and was good for months. Then the code came back, tape loosened up. I cut off the plastic fitting and put a three inch section of tubing from the back of the purge valve, to the beginning of the hard metal black pipe, reset the codes and good to go

Does anyone have a part number for the ESIM?

A little late to the party, no?
