So much conflicting info out there. The local exhaust shop told me to do my research and find what I want with no drone and he’ll put it on for me. I was led to believe from YouTube I needed separate pipes to keep each cylinder bank by itself for now drone. I ran into someone at target with an 11-14 R/T and he said he has no drone with an X-pipe. He told me he was a mechanic and did everything himself. As long as it’s all same diameter you won’t have drone. So any advice out there?

X or H pipes help with scavenging and help produce more power. My 2015 RT manual came stock with an H pipe and zero drone, that is because there are rear resonators for that. The earlier year, automatic challengers had a large suitcase mid muffler but newer models use an X pipe with separate mufflers...however, all RT challengers have large rear resonators. Except for +2017 models which were fitted with active exhaust like the 6.4s. All aftermarket exhaust systems for the RT are either X or H piped and most either use resos in the rear or J-tubes to eliminate any drone.

My bad I got my forums crossed. Anyways based on how early challenger exhaust on the RTs was designed you should not have any drone provided you retain the rear resonators.

I have seen 2.5” for all aftermarket exhaust systems. Also, if you’re going to a local muffler shop make sure they have a mandrel bending machine.

On the topic of X or H pipe it depends… most will say the H gives a more old school deep muscle car sound where the X gives a more modern higher raspier tone.

In my experience the drone comes more from the type of mufflers/resonators you put on the car than X and H pipe.

I am still researching which exhaust to go with on my 23’ R/T so I will provide more input as I progress… but leaning towards a custom exhaust system made by my local muffler guru.

Drone is a touchy topic with a lot of mis-information. But commonly, people experience drone at steady-state cruising, and drone gets subjectively louder (because there are only half the exhaust pulses) when the engine goes into MDS-mode. The manufacturers usually take great care to eliminate drone because it's probably the noise-related thing that consumers complain about the most.
Personally I've got the so-called "SRT" Performance exhaust on my new 100-mile '22, with Tow-N-Go.
It'll be removed almost immediately in favour of a milder and less annoyingly loud (and much more spouse-friendly) Magnaflow 15068 cat-back system (with x-pipe)

Well, good luck with that. The test drives I've heard on the TNG has nothing wrong with the exhaust sound.

I really didn’t hear a difference between my R/T and TNG? The SRT did sound different but that’s got a bigger motor.

I think it is a pretty good exhaust noise, but it is fairly noticeable on the highway as an omnipresent low rumble.
My wife objects to the noise. As do many other spouses. She freaks out about the noise when I lay into it to overtake a slower driver. It seems to be a common enough complaint.
So that's got me on the search for a milder sounding exhaust that still has a decent "sound".

There's an enormous difference between the regular R/T and the TNG exhaust, at least on the 2022.

I'm going by this video:
at 5:10 is R/T motor with Magnaflow.
at 12:09 is the SRT with stock exhaust, which is a lot like what my '22 sounds like with the TNG "Performance" exhaust.

Please let us know how that exhaust sounds. Thanks in advance.

When I test drive both I didn’t hot rod it just a slow cruise around to see how it felt. Didn’t notice a big difference in exhaust. Maybe it’s just me…

LoL my stock 2017 DD GT does not sound anything like the V6 portrayed in the vid.

Let me know if you want mine if you choose to get them.

Since I’m dead broke right now I’m unsure when I can get them. I did gain permission to do lapping days with our BMW. So track fees, safety gear, etc. it ads up and so as much as I love the everyday Durango, mods will take time. Hopefully I’m allowed to get suitcase cut out for $140.
