Sagging power lift gate

Hi everyone!

As of this morning my 2011 Durango Crew lift gate opened fine with my remote keyfob. Once it was all the way open it then sagged a bit. As I went to close it with the power button locate on the panel of the truck, it would not work. I had to manually close it.

would anyone think this was a strut issue or something else that I should have checked?
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't replaced it...yes, they go bad and certainly at that age it would be due for replacement.
Though I'd still expect the hatch to close.
Certainly a lot less expensive than the motor lift.

Yes, replace the right side strut. Do this before the power strut on the left fails. And if the power strut has too much force placed on it the mounting studs can break off inside the body.

Thank you Everyone. Would this be thought to be a separate issue than the power button not working? Or could they be related?

It's the right strut not doing it's job that is messing it up. Since it's weak it doesn't do it's job going up or down and the power strut motor can sense that so it stops working so it's not overpowered.
