2021 Durango Hellcat Oil Consumption

Anyone else consuming at least a quart of oil between oil changes?

It's about at 7,500 miles, I am the only owner. It's consumed oil since purchased not a recent development. I saw on other Hellcat forums there were consumption issue early on. I have been provided similar explanations it's a high performance engine and you are not yet to 8,000 miles. I own a 2016 Charger Hellcat too, and I have done multiple high performance track days and it doesn't seem to consume oil.

I have been diligent making sure the dealer notes the oil level each time I go in for service so if something does happen it was documented issue.

Quite common on Hellcats to see some consumption. Your owner's manual will tell you to check the oil during each fill-up. The manual states that it is common to have consumption at first.

I lost several quarts on one interval and they did a consumption test. Apparently losing a little (a quart) is normal but more than that is concern and atypical for a hellcat motor. My consumption test showed no unusual usage and my next few intervals have had normal consumption. 🤷

I bet that your supercharger is welled oiled. Check the inside of the air inlet tube, it's probably dripping with oil. Then invest in an oil catch can.

Just got back from my oil change... no consumption between changes. 0w40 Engine Oil - Mopar (68523970AA) and the usual 9 quarts charged (looks like 8.5 needed?).

I did find this while doing some searching and the bottom part is likely the important part regarding consumption. My LS6 has issues with sustained high RPM / no load situations causing oil to get past the rings. I wonder if it's something similar here?

MODELS: This bulletin applies to all FCA US LLC vehicles 2012-2019 equipped with gasoline engines.
Oil Consumption
The accepted rate of oil consumption for engines used in the vehicles listed above is 1 quart (0.946 liter) in 2,000 miles (3,200 km) for the 1st 50,000 miles (80,467 km). For vehicles with more then 50,000 miles (80,467 km) the acceptable oil consumption for engines is 1 quart (0.946 liter) in 750 miles (1,207 km).
CAUTION: This above rate only applies to personal use vehicles, under warranty, that are driven in a non-aggressive manner and maintained in accordance with the appropriate maintenance schedule.
CAUTION: This rate does not apply to vehicles that are driven in an aggressive manner, at high RPM, high speeds, or in a loaded condition (for trucks). See ‘Causes for Oil Consumption’ below. Oil consumption for vehicles driven under these conditions will be higher and may include Fleet and Commercial customers.

Aggressive Driving
Aggressive driving and/or continuous driving at high speeds with high RPM's will increase oil consumption. Because this may not always be an everyday occurrence, it is hard to determine exactly how much the oil economy will be affected. A higher rate of oil consumption is normal for vehicles equipped with manual transmissions that are driven aggressively. Aggressive means; operation at high RPM (3,000 RPM to redline), with frequent use of engine braking (using the engine to slow the vehicle). Vehicles that are driven aggressively may consume engine oil at a rate of up to 0.946 L (1 quart) every 805 km (500 mi). This is normal for a vehicle that is driven aggressively. No repair is necessary. This driving habit will require the owner to check the engine oil level at frequent intervals, to verify the oil level remains within the recommended operating range. Oil level should be checked every time you get fuel.

makes sense, previous oil change didn't drive it hard and not low at all, now the one I need to do this weekend, i've added :p :devilish:

yes, something like 8.3 w/cooler drain. Which I just did cut out on. Dealership never replaces half the screws and rivets on the undertray.
