Hello I have a 2015 Durango with the v6 engine., 75,000 miles, this past week I have noticed the engine making a louder ticking noise than normal, can easily be heard when in front of the car. and sounds like the lifters/rockers ticking, which from a bit of research sounds like a common problem with these engines. There have been no performance issues or dash lights triggered so far. My question is would this be something that needs to be addressed immediately and will it only get worse? What would the cost be for the fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure it isn't coming from the exhaust manifolds first then, if it's from the engine and is getting worse you need to fix it before you lose a lifter which will take out the cam. The exhaust will be louder and you'll hear it while driving and it will change with engine speed. The lifter noise is less likely to be heard in the cabin while driving. If it's lifters then grease up your favorite orifice.

thanks for the reply, the noise is definitely coming from right under the engine cover, and is a constant tick, tick, tick, tick.

Can you make a video of what you are seeing/hearing, and post a link to it here? As TFH says, the lifter/rocker arm issue gets more expensive quickly. Caught early, you might get away under $2k. Left unrepaired, it could be double that, or more.

A cheap stethoscope or the old long screwdriver to your ear will allow you to pinpoint the noise. Just note that the injectors are quite loud in the Hemi and is usually the tick noise. Exhaust manifolds are typically more noisy at start up and will often quiet as the engine temp rises.

i do not have the hemi, it’s the v6 model

If it is that lifters, you will want to get them fixed as asap as possible. They will eventually destroy the cam and cause more problems.

That does sound concerning for 75k. Did you buy it new, and do you have a good relationship with your dealer? If so, it would not hurt to see if they might help you out a bit. I say this, because your D had a 5 year 100k powertrain warranty, and 75k is awful young for such an issue.
The worst they can do, is decline.

Just got the diagnosis from the dealership, it is the lifters and the quote was $1,600. That is if they don’t Have to replace any of the cams. If they need to replace all 4 it comes out to $3,400. That is crazy.

They should only need to replace one cam and only if the one bad lifter damaged it. If none of the other lifters show signs of failing then only the lifters need to be replaced. More than likely the cams are good if you caught it early before a lifter failure.

Sadly, that sounds about right. From what I heard, I think you might get away with the lifters, and possibly 1 cam as TFH says. Did they mention the rocker arms? Once they get in there, those may get added to the list.
It would not hurt to call the Stellantis customer service number, and inquire about some help there. Form those quotes, it does not sound like the dealer is giving you any sort of a break.
