Factory Integrated Trailer Brake How-To

First off all credit needs to be given to Medic one for taking this on and providing us with the guide and parts list.

I can confirm that the factory integrated trailer brake controller can also be added to a 2019 Durango. Here is the how-to with pictures and tips to hopefully help anyone that wants to take this on. First tip I can give you is don't over think it. Its actually really simple and hopefully with Medic ones guide and my pictures and tips it will make it easier. My 2019 Durango R/T did not come with the factory tow package. I also had to install the hitch and trailer harness as well. There are a few videos and guides out there on that install so I wont go into that here.

I recommend that you find a dash harness off eBay. I found one from a 2019 Ram 2500 for around $110. Just make sure it has the two module connectors and switch module connector. See pictures below. All Rams should have these connectors and harness integrated into main dash harness. You can buy all the connectors listed in the parts list but this is very expensive route and there is no guarantee that all the wires will be long enough. Plus having a Dash harness gives you a bunch of connectors and wires that can be used for later projects if desired.

Also a good website to to get connector information from when determining what certain wires are for and what circuit they are on is Mopar Connection Repair Kit (dcctools.com) It really helped alot when I was comparing the Ram harness against the Durango Harness.

This is what you will be taking out of the main Dash harness just unravel harness and pull out all the wires that are connected to the three connectors. Unpin the other ends from the connectors or trace them back to the factory splice connections and cut them out from there.

This is what your harness should roughly look like after extending and routing it out.
-Starting from the upper left is the yellow and orange twisted wires - these are the CAN IP wires and do not need to be extended. grouped in that harness section is the OG/GY panel lamps driver wire and the PK/GN fused ign run/start wire. These will need to be extended if you want to connect them to the Durango cluster harness.
  • The lower left is the main switch harness connecting the switch module to the ITBM module.
  • The longer harness section on the right consists of the Blue trailer feed wire and the BG/RD wire that need to be extended long enough to go through the fire wall up to the fuse box in the engine bay. Also in that section is the DG/WH wire that needs to be long enough to reach the Body Control Module located behind the passenger side kick panel.
  • Lastly the upper short wire is the ground wires.

Tools that are needed

    • ratchet
    • 7mm socket
    • T20 Socket
    • Panel trim removal tool
    • Flat head screw driver
    • 10mm wrench
    • wire strippers or razor knife
    • heat shrink
    • electrical tape

ON TO THE INSTALL [forgot to add this before doing anymore it is good practice to disconnect the 10mm nuts on the battery]

1 remove the trim around the radio with plastic tool (I recommend popping the bottom out first then working upward. be gentle but firm)
2 remove the 4 7mm screws for the radio and remove the radio
3 unplug the ping satellite radio connector so the radio can hang down out of the way.
3 install the 3 snap nuts into the aluminum frame behind the radio
4 using the guide pins install the module bracket and secure with the screws

ITBM INSTALLED
5 remove the plastic surrounding the steering wheel
6 remove the dashboard trim piece on the right (where the switch goes)
7 remove the gauge cluster Using the T20 socket remove 3 screws 1 on top 2 on the bottom located behind the steering wheel trim piece.
8 remove the passenger under dashboard cover and disconnect the wiring for the lights
9 Connect the data wires to the can IP position 8
I REMOVED THE SIDE DASH COVER TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE GREEN CAN BOARD WHERE THE IP DATA WIRES PLUGS INTO

10 Connect the acc power wire from module C2 pin 10 to the pk/gn wire in the cluster harness
11 connect the lamp driver from switch connector pin 8 to the OG/GY wire in the cluster harness
Splice these into the corresponding harness wires.

12 connect the brake sense wire from module C1 pin 2 to either the BCM C4/d pin 18 or the DG/WH located in the harness on the left side of the center console
I CONNECTED MINE AT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE

13 connect the black from switch connector pin6 and Module C1 pin 1 to any chassis ground. I used the nut on the right side of the ITBM module for my grounding location see above picture below step 4.
14 run the brake output and supply power out the passenger side of the fire wall near the right side and put through a gourmet to the fuse box.
15 connect the Module C1 pin 4 to the blue wire tucked up under the fuse box. Comes from the hitch wiring harness.
16 Connect the Module C1 pin 3 to the PDC (fuse bod) C6 pin 1 ( make sure 15 amp fuse in F11 location)
17 Re assemble and reinstall all dash board components.
18 use ALPHAOBD to turn on the CSM trailer selected, CSM Trailer name, CSM Trailer type and PT Chassis ITBM enable
19 you have to give it some time to upgrade the the radio but the cluster works right away

Unfortunately the site will only allow me to post 10 files(photos).

REGARDLESS JUST KNOW THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO ADD THE FACTORY INTERGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER. IF YOU NEED ANY HELP JUST PM ME OR MEDIC ONE AND I'M SURE ONE OF USE CAN HELP YOU OUT.
