Center Screen Separates - Owners Beware of Known Issue - Should be Recalled

I’m having the exact same issue in my 2018 Dodge Durango RT, the problems with the radio screen delaminating first started 3 months after the B to B ended, it’s now totally unusable, which is totally unacceptable for a $50K top of the line SUV.
I opened a case, #80917583 with Dodge Customer Care on October 28 and my trusted SD local dealership at 777 Camino Del Rio South & service advisor confirmed it’s a production Defect and that Dodge has already opened a Technical Service Bulletin to address this problem. ………on Nov 11, 2021 it will be a full 2 weeks that I’ve been getting the run around from Austin and his Boss Alex at Dodge Car Care, this is no way to treat a 25 year loyal Dodge/ Jeep owner of 5 of their vehicles.
Buyers beware, will not recommend any Dodge/ Jeep vehicles to any family or friends.

There's a company that charges $300 that you send your Head unit out to and they repair it and send it back, but I can't be without a vehicle for however long that takes

Another note FCA said that I should have it replaced and keep my receipts in case they decide to reimburse me later. Yeah right ! Anyone have any other ideas?

I called FCA customer care and was told the same thing. I asked to speak with a supervisor and got a call back today. She told me there was nothing more they can do but was told that I could write to corporate to escalate the issue. This is the address I was given:

**Make sure that you put your case number that was given to you by the FCA customer care.

Had this issue for awhile, but finally found a youtube video that shows what the heck is going on and how to fix. If you're even slightly mechanically inclined, you can tackle this. The radio can be removed with little fanfare, takes about 10 minutes. Then, (ya gotta love Youtube) look up The Hands on Gang UConnect 8.4 Delamination fix. This is a good tutorial on how to fix this. It's not a delamination issue as much as it's a questionable design, using some kind of glue between the digitizer (thing that registers your touch) and the actual LCD screen underneath. This glue begins to leak out and form bubbles between the digitizer and screen and makes it look like the two things are separating. In the process, it wreaks havoc with ghost touches, etc. Took about 2 hours total to fix. Just be careful with the digitizer and the cable connected to it, and you should be ok.

This is not a safety issue. If it starts ghost touching you can just turn it off. I do think they should extend the warranty coverage on it so people don't get denied repair over a known issue. They did it with the fuel tanks on the 2005-2010 300, chargers, and magnums. A real safety issue that I can't believe they haven't recalled is the early 2000's chevy trucks that the brake lines rust until they burst causing a loss of brakes.

I read somewhere else that someone had quickly gone into a store and left their elderly grandfather in the car and the screen ghost touched the climate controls turning the heat super high. They came back fast luckily. Could have been very bad I'd say this is a safety issue.

2nd owner here with an extended warranty, just called and they denied me. Acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. Same with the dealership. Quoted me $2000 for a new unit. This is really a bummer.

Read your warranty exclusions and see if the radio is in the list of excluded items.

I just did this fix yesterday. Cleaning off all that glue wasn’t fun but it works now.
My screen got so bad I couldn’t use it.
At times it did change climate settings & even hit the SOS button. Driving & trying quickly to delete it when the screen was going haywire wasn’t happening so I just shut the radio off & then hoped nobody came to rescue me.

I ended up buying a new digitizer instead of trying to re-use the old one.
I’m convinced that glue helps with glare. I’m getting a lot of reflection on the screen now but other than that it works perfectly.

Mine started as a tiny bubble and now the entire top of the screen is starting to separate. I don't know the exact years this is an issue with but mine is a 2018 Durango SRT. After the screen started to separate it then became nearly unusable because it thinks you are pressing down on the screen with your finger; mine goes nuts; starts asking if I want to adjust the clock, switches to the radio, will not stay on the navigation screen, popups appear everywhere etc. I took it in to the dealership since I still have a month left on my warranty and they said it is a known issue, that they don't plan on a recall, and that the day the warranty runs out you will have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. So if your DD has even the tiniest bubble in the screen and it is still under warranty I would take it in immediately; it will get worst and it will not be replaced for free after the warranty runs out. The dealership said when it starts happening that you should unpair your phone from the radio because it will start calling your contacts and doing other things on its own. Below are pictures of what mine looks like. I live in FL so it is very hot and humid so mine probably separated sooner than some people's will. If you live in a colder climate it may take longer (or not separate at all) but I would hate to have to pay for that screen after the warranty runs out. A final piece of "good" news is that it takes 2-3wks to get the new unit because apparently they custom build each head unit based on the exact vehicle so now I'm stuck with a possessed screen for another few weeks. They said they will cover it? I was told that’s not covered under warranty!

I live in Maine. Mine started delaminating in 2021. 2018 Durango. Today it started with the ghost touching so now I can’t even have the screen on or it messes with anything in the top left corner.
