Hi all,

Does anyone recommend a good WD setup? Would an adjustable height hitch be better? Since the SRT rides a bit lower, not sure if it would be better to have a hitch that i could raise a bit.

I towed last summer, and as you can see, w/o a WD setup i was sagging just a little... (trailer was 6200lbs dry)

I had no issues at all with power or even handling, but i'd rather not deal with the sagging again for longer duration trips that we're planning this summer.

And sorry if this was discussed in other threads, but i did a search and couldn't find anything concrete really.

TIA!
What kind of side mirrors are you using. I just bought a 32’ TT and I can’t see anything beside me.

Your focusing on the wrong number. The Durango will not be able to tow a 8,700 lbs travel trailer and stay under its rear axle rating. That’s because TT’s have 12-15% tongue weight.

A 5000-5500 lbs dry (7,000 lb GVWR) TT is at the very limit of what Durango can tow. 5.7 or 6.4 or 6.2SC doesn’t matter as it’s not the engine holding it back, it’s the chassis and axles.

SRT’s chassis and axle ratings (7100/3200/3940 lbs) are basically the same as the regular 5.7 (7100/3200/3900 lbs).

Because of this the SRT is going to be limited to the same size travel trailer as the 5.7, which is under 5,500 lbs dry weight.

Once you add in 2nd or 3rd row passengers (whose weight goes 100% on the rear axle), you further reduce how much tongue weight the rear axle can carry as you get closer to its 3,940 lbs limit.
All depends on how you load the trailer, you can balance it and make it work. If everything is balanced out personally I wouldn't pull more than 85%, or 7,395 lbs. It can take a long time to get everything set up and determine where you need to stage equipment to get that perfect balance.

Dodge isn’t wrong, you are just misinformed.

Durango’s tow rating is certified using the J2807 standard. Which means (one) 150 lb driver, (one) 150 lb front passenger, 70 lbs of towing equipment and 10% tongue weight.

So in order to tow 8,700 lbs and not exceed vechicle limitations that means that you can have a total payload of 1,240 lbs in the Durango broken down into:

300 lbs of total passenger weight
70 lbs for WDH
870 lbs tongue weight

Tongue weight for travel trailers are in the 12-15% range. Which means with higher tongue weight comes a lower overall trailer weight.

Durango is certified for a 8,700 lb trailer if it meets those strict J2807 requirements.
I have a 2017 Citadel 5.7 and tow a Jayco 24RBS dry weight of 5863lbs. I have a Husky 600-800 wdh does wonders in keeping the TT level with the Durango. Also load leveling shocks help too.
Any pics with it hooked up?

I use these, and they work fairly well, after you get them lined up... they also do tend to shake at highway speeds so the inner mirror doesn't help much, but the convex (outer) mirrors are what i use them for anyways.

I recommend the weigh-safe medium or heavy duty hitch, which has a built in scale. It helps with running the numbers and packing properly. My RV is a dry weight of 5900 lbs but we are fully packed closer to 7200 lbs for our big summer trip.

My post with my weights (I'm still limited by the rear GAWR of 3900 lbs, which gets a small 40 lbs increase if I go with the Tow n Go or SRT)
