Hello everyone, I was wondering if everybody else's ac compressor cycles on and off every 10-15 seconds on low cool setting? Mine is doing that and I think the clutch or compressor is faulty.. I took it to the dealer and they said is in working order as design but I something doesn't seem right.. First of all, I never noticed it or heard it before and it wouldn't make sence for a ac compressor to do that.. No compressor will last if it cycles on and off that much.. But I could be wrong, technology today could have change that.. Thanks for the responses in advanced!

That is normal for an auto compressor when the system is running on low fan and there is not much for the compressor to do to keep the cabin cool. Keep in mind that you are talking about when it's on "low cool setting."

I know it does my '01 Chev 2500 and my '05 Caravan. They do it more at speed because the compressor is turning faster and so it isn't needed as much for low speed air. Haven't you ever noticed that with any other cars you've owned? If the inside of the vehicle is comfortable and has met the target temperature then there isn't any reason for the compressor to keep running. I can't say my DD has met that temperature qualification though it gets very comfortable. My '06 Charger has the same auto air that the DD has but it drops the fan speed and cycles the compressor when it gets to the target temp. My DD has never done that in the year I've owned it, whether on front only or front/rear, even though I believe that is how it should work. If you set your system to auto air does the fan ever slow down as it gets cold?

I never set it on auto, I just keep it in the low s
etting and recirculating..

Then it's working normally. If that is all of the fan speed you need then your system isn't having any trouble holding the temperature and so the compressor will cycle on and off frequently. Your 90s is nothing like our 105 to 115s where the compressor will work non-stop trying to get to the temperature. Once we do get there and can turn the fan down, like at night or early morning, then our compressors cycle on and off like yours.

Hey @Cris1090 your compressor is working normal. When you have recirculating on it does not allow outside air to mix so your cabin air is constantly being cooled. So when it is cool it does not take much to keep it cool. Just roll with it, no problem with your system!
