Hi, I wouldn't waste your money. I'm a former police officer and a radar and lidar instructor. The only thing a radar detector will do for you is alert you when to pull over because by the time it goes off the police officer has already clocked your speed.
Law enforcement radars are too smart these days. Police officers even have radars that will detect radar detectors. If it's illegal in your state.
Also a thing for thought as if you get a radar detector it will not detect a lidar which is a laser beam that is shot from the lidar to your license plate. Good luck

Are you for real!? How long ago were you in Law Enforcement, the 70's?
Ignore everything MPclancy67 said.
There is so much wrong with that post and what was said in it, it is just ridiculous. I'll go over what is true and what isn't here based off that post.
1. A detector can and will notify you well before you even see the source of where it is coming from depending on conditions and terrain. In some cases it is alerting you for a threat several miles down the road where they can't read your speed, never the less see you or even know your there, again depending on terrain and conditions. Now if we are talking about instant on, or "pop" then that is another story, they are close and have you in sight. It is also totally wrong to say once your radar goes off they have your speed (reread previous statements), unless it is LIDAR, then yes your SOL.
2. LIDAR (layman's term is laser) is absolutely something that can be picked up by radar detectors, just like MCRD, X, K, KA, and KU. Hell some of them can even pick up the traffic enforcement for red light cameras.
3. There are several detectors that are undetectable by a LEO. Yes some LEO's have tech to know if your running a detector, however if you have the right detector installed they can't tell if your running one.
4. To say law enforcement radar is too smart these days is also a scare tactic. Some do have front and rear radar which is sort of newish but that uses the same frequencies that have been out for decades. LIDAR is not new either and has been around close to 30 years or so. While the gear they use is smaller and newer, it is still using the same frequencies and light tech (LIDAR) as they always have.
The detector alone even with everything posted on what they can do here can still net you a ticket. Good situational awareness and common sense as well as other countermeasures besides using a detector can also be your best friend. I look at the detector as a reminder to keep my speed in check, when it does goes off it does make me double check and be more aware of how fast I may be going.
