Missing or loose parts on 2020-2021 Dodge Duranos have caused a recall of more than 3,000 SUVs, with 2,721 of those recalled in the U.S. and about 290 SUVs recalled in Canada. Chrysler says 2020-2021 Dodge Durango side airbag curtain fasteners may be loose or missing, causing problems with the airbags when they deploy. Chrysler says there are no defective parts because the Durango problem was caused during assembly when the SUVs were built with loose or missing C-pillar side curtain airbag fasteners.

The automaker learned of a problem in December 2020 when a 2021 Dodge Durango was brought into service for a noise/rattle complaint. Technicians found the SUV was missing the C-pillar side curtain airbag fastener. This caused Chrysler (Stellantis) to open an investigation which revealed some Durangos may have been built with loose or missing fasteners. The suspect period began on March 1, 2020, when the side curtain airbag C-pillar fasteners were first incorrectly torqued during production, through February 15, 2021, when torque operations were fixed.

As of April 15, 2021, Chrysler has received seven warranty claims, two field reports and no reports of crashes or injuries. Dodge dealerships will inspect and possibly install the fasteners, ensuring they are tightened to specification. The Dodge Durango recall is expected to begin June 11, 2021. SUV owners may contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403 and refer to recall reference number Y16.

Seems to me it would be the very end of 2020 production and the very beginning of 2021 production.
Article indicates it was Durango's manufactured from March 1st 2020 to February 15th 2021. I think the pandemic has taken its toll on numerous industries with regards to quality of delivered goods. High product demand and not many experienced associates to assembly the products is causing a ton of delays and quality problems everywhere.

I wonder if it is a certain trim level? I mean 2700 over the course of almost a year seems like it was a very specific trim level with that low of a number.

My friend @jeffauclair has a 2021 DDRT and his ride is part of this recall. He sent me the TSB and DAMN, FCA says 3 hours to repair but you need to take down the headliner and dismantle so many other parts and connectors I can't see anyone doing this in < 1 day. FCA is terrible with their time allotment. Dealers should not be penalized with time when the problem was some goof ball on the assembly line screwing things up. (or not screwing things up correctly. LOL )

Looking at the instructions for the repair, it's a big job so good luck to all who get this done. Words of Warning! Document everything with the service advisor before they start working on it.
My concern woud not be having the bolts correctly tightened or replaced, it would be how things go back together. Lost parts/screws, damaged headliner, scuff pillar panels, new rattles, etc, is the scary part.

Could you share the TSB so we can see what vehicles are associated with the recall?

Thanks for the information and I will agree with the posts above, the repair is insane there is now way on this earth any dealer is going to dissemble and reassemble a vehicle in perfect order and have that vehicle be the same as it left the factory. Sorry to say it but I have no faith, just hoping and praying I am not in the list of VIN numbers, if I am I might consider trading mine in seriously.

Most be on specific sub set of models looking at the yearly sales about 55,000 DD are sold yearly sometimes more. So only recalling 2,721 vehicles must be with a specific option or configuration.

You can check your VIN# on Dodge or Mopar's website for the recall.

I checked and mine is not included. Counting my lucky stars on that one. My build date was literally right at the end of that period. Something else to keep an eye on is the Manufacturer Communications page at NHTSA.gov. There are already 50 different documents listed there for the 2021 Durango. Note, there is a separate page for the SRT.

Have they actually released the VIN number list yet? The Recall says the VIN numbers will be released to Dealers and customers notified on 06/11 so I dont know if the recall by VIN is providing the correct information yet.

Hi,
Yes the VINs are currently released. You can use the link below to check for open recalls for your vehicle or send us a message via private message with your VIN.

I got a letter from FCA telling me my SRT is in the recall. After reading what's involved I'm not interested in giving the dealership a chance to screw something else up while "fixing" a recall. I filed the letter in case I need it later but I'm not making an appointment to have it fixed just yet.

Interesting. Wonder if that's what my rattle in my back passenger door is? Thought is was a screw that fell out. Annoying as fck. Will have to have it checked out along with the horrible 5th to 4th downshift, the misaligned passenger door that must be slammed to be properly closed, and the trim piece falling off on top of rear hatch opening. You would think with the durango being in production for so long, there would be zero issues. My 1st, and last fca vehicle. Way too many issues. I now know why dodge ranks so low. Great looking vehicle, but build quality blows.

Hi darfstellar,
We issued this recall because we value your safety and recommend having the repair as soon as possible.

@DodgeCares - There is precisely zero point zero zero percent chance that a dealership can execute the instructions in that recall within the time you are allowing them to actually bill without rushing and cutting corners. Surely you will understand the difficulty we have in believing these vehicles are going to be handled carefully and correctly with a process as involved and complicated as this recall stipulates. I would say you guys need to get ready for some serious backlash from the folks who have been included in this mess. The build quality on many of these early vehicles has been garbage at best, and this is only going to make it worse. You know it, and we know it. If this is so important (I actually think it is) then Dodge should be bending over backwards to make sure the dealers have everything they need - the parts, the training, and the billable time - to get this fixed right, the first time, and every time.

Agree. These durangos seriously are put together terribly. Never again with a POS fca product. I should have known. Thankfully I leased. It will be someone else's issue in 2 years.
