OK, so I don't have and pics right this moment, but I'll get them uploaded soon.

For those of you that don't know, I'm putting a 1999 5.2L motor in a 2000 that originally had a 4.7l. This was prompted because of my transmission faliure (partly my fault and my river crossing exploits.) I got a good deal from a close friend of mine. This swap is basically costing me nothing except for any mods I do along the way. He had a wrecked D with a good 5.2 and a prefect Dakota needing a 4.7. Basically he has gave me the entire D for my motor.

What follows is the story of what I hope to be a fun project! Please keep checking back for new info!

Today was day 1 of the project.

I spent most of the afternoon today at my friends shop pulling out my motor. It came out with almost no problems. The only small issue was having to cut off the bolts connecting the exhaust manifolds to the rest of the exhaust. He came and got it with his wrecker and brought it back after we got done. The fun part of this scene is that you have to understand where my garage is located. It's about 1 city block up a 30+ degree incline of a gravel driveway. He managed to get the D off of his rollback and in an insane position for me to get it back into my garage. The slope of the rollback and the slope of my hill made a nearly perfect "V". After about 20 mins of him using his rollback to literally push the wrecker oput from under my D we finally got it in a good enough place to be able to roll into my garage.

Now the fun part gets to begin. I no longer have the comfort of his professional shop with lifts and (most importantly) heat. I'm now working out of my little garage with a small propane tank-top heater in anywhere from 10-30 degree weather. The first order of business is to clean out my garage, which normally could fit 4 cars eaisly, but now couldn't hold a motorcycle because of the clutter. I also have no way of hauling off the junk and garbage at the moment because my Mustang isn't known for it's ability to haul junk. Let's hope the snow and rain holds off long enough for me to get a couple days in of cleaning.

More to come and piccys of my D sitting up on the hill.

Congrats Dart on getting it in and getting started. What a project! Preserve that PCM, tranny hookups and all the wiring harness parts. You'll need it all.

Would a door and passengers body parts swap from your D to the doner D been an easier task?

Hey D'tan? see that:!: Someone WANTING and ADDING a 5.2L. It's not the red-headed stepchild afterall. I know of many a smokin' 318s from back in the day :)

No, there was severe damage to the rear quarter and bad spots on the roofline. It was rolled on the side and is totalled.

This also gives me the chance to rebuild the engine if I want. If I sell enough parts off the donor, there may even be a stroker in the near future.

I once had a nearly 1000 HP blown 318. In a 87 Crysler New Yorker with crushed velvet seats and shag carpet! Pimping ain't easy. I'll try to find piccys of it.

Dart,
I know its asking a lot, but if you could do pics and point out the troublespots you have or had along the way it'd be great. At least great for those of us who plan on removing and replacing their engine with a new one maybe in the near future! Like me, for instance :] Thanks

That's what this post is all about! Keep checking back for more pics as the days go by. I'm going outside now to take some.

I don't have any pics of pulling the motor out. Everything went so fast I didn't have time. There where 3 guys on it at one time and we got it out in less than 4 hours, imcluding a lunch break! As for the rest of it, it'll take me a few weeks to get motivated enough to get finished. I hate working for myself :(, there's no $$$ in it, haha!

Here are a few pictures that I took the other day when my D was brought home. You can see how far away I'm from the end of my driveway in one, how much of an angle it's sitting on the hill in another, and how much the wrecker slid back trying to get it where it's. One shows the interior of the engine compartment with the motor gone. The other two are my little helper, "Devil" a Siberian Huskey.

I took more than this, but my camera phone has a horrid shutter speed and they where fuzzy. I went and bought a new camera just now and I'll be taking better pics in the future. For now enjoy these!

Sounds fun, where are you at? It never gets much below 0c here, but averaged 90-100c during summer.
I hope it not boiling, that's hot!

Good luck and keep us updated. Ted
