I just picked up a Blackvue 900x 2 channel 4k/1080 dashcam and got it wired up, but stupidly, I didn't "test fit" the front camera. Since my SRT has all that lane following sensor/camera gear in that big plastic box up behind the mirror, there's no good center location to mount the camera. So I put the base on the black shading to the right of the sensor box, but the problem is its not getting a full view of the left half of the front end. Its ok enough for the road directly ahead of me, but if someone were to pull out in front of me on my left, it wouldn't get a great capture.

I could mount the camera below the bottom of the equipment on the windshield, but that may look a bit odd.

I'm wondering if anyone has used one and how they mounted it.

This is the camera. - it's pretty cool, records 4k, and has a 1080p rear camera (same style, just smaller) that connects to the main camera with a thin cable that fit so easily along the headliner base. Literally went in with my bare hands.

These blend mounts would probably be a good solution for you.

I myself have been looking at the one you have and the Thinkware U1000. I’d be interested in seeing what you come up with, I’m heavily leaning towards the Thinkware, but it’s awkward shape makes it tough to find a good position for installation.

If I go with the Blackview like yours, I’d grab one of those mounts.

My DR-900X-2CH install with the blend mount a few months ago in my 2020 DDSRT: Dashcamtalk

Search my other posts there and you'll find links to sample vids and the OBD-II port power cable I used so I didn't have to deal with running wire through the firewall to hardwire.

Was it easy to power? What did you do, add a fuse? or hardware to the battery or 12V?

I wanted to avoid the wires through the firewall dance if I could (if you don't already know, there's no fuse panel inside the Durango cabin, only under the hood). AN OBD-II powered solution was what I wanted.

Unfortunately, the BlackVue OBD Power Magic Pro has been discontinued by BV due to tons of problems with them failing. Can't even find new old stock anywhere. Might be part of the reason why the incorporated the power management circuitry into the new DR750 and DR900X series cams.

I looked all over the place and couldn't find anything that would work with the new BV cams, since the wiring and plugs are different on those series now.

Then I stumbled onto a place in Los Angeles called "Ace Dashcam" that makes a OBD2 power cable specifically for the DR750X and DR900X. He makes them himself in his shop.

I was a little wary, obviously, so I looked for reviews and other sellers, but found none--other than his EBay store where he also sells them. So I called him and we chatted. Got a good vibe, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Worst that could happen is it fails and I go back and hardwire the cam the old-fashioned way.

I've been running one for about six months now without any problem at all. As far as the cam is concerned, it thinks it's hardwired to the fusebox. Parking mode and all other normal functions work perfectly, and all battery protection functions in the phone app work perfectly. The cam thinks it's hardwired.

You can find his website with your search app of choice and see it under Electronics > Parking Mode Add-Ons. Like I said, it doesn't come from somewhere else, the guy makes these on site. And looks like pretty good work as well.

100% recommend.

I took the easy way out. I simply used the 12v plug harness that came with mine, ran the wire down to the center console in the second row and plugged it in to the switched 12v socket. There's even a little notch in the console to allow wires to hang out with the cover closed. I used a stick on zip tie holder to secure the wire in place. Took all of 10 min to install with no cutting or wiring. I don't want parking mode so switched is all I need.

I have a Blackvue installed in my SRT and I went with the Blendmount system: MirrorTap Power Cord (blendmount.com) I also used Blendmount for my Valentine 1 radar detector. Needless to say the second tap got pretty tight so most of the tap is coming from the leads for the first tap. Both the BlackVue and the V1 have been running this way with no problems since 2018.

For the V1 I went with the Mirror Mount system. All told, it was a real pain between the wires, the mounts, and the cluster of equipment behind the mirror but it all turned out pretty nicely.
