2013 Dodge Durango crew v6 rear drive
The truck randomly doesn’t start. No crank remote start doesn’t work either. Always starts first but won’t come back on after you turn off at gas station or after short drive. Brake is sort of hard can’t press through. No failure messages. Battery is fine. Lights radio so on work. Truck will start again after some tries. Timing is random sometimes this happens once a week sometimes once a month sometimes it takes 4 tries sometimes 40 minutes. Break lights don’t work in this situation. Sometimes walking away with key works. Been to 6 different mechanics no one can figure it out. Has been going on for over a year now. Input is appreciated:)

Caroline:
The issues you mention with the brake pedal being hard, remote start not working, etc, make me think there could be an issue with the brake switch. You are supposed to depress the brake pedal to start, correct? If that switch (or circuit) is problematic, I would expect the issues you are having.

The pedal being hard sounds like the brake booster is not retaining vacuum for one reason or another. This may be related, or a separate issue.
How many miles on your Durango?

But wouldn’t that mean the brake light don’t work at all?
I think Don means that the Brake Pedal isn't activating the Brake switch. So if the switch isn't activated no brake lights at that time only. When things are operating normally you have the brake lights. The switch might be out of adjustment or intermittent/faulty in some way.

My thought is that there is some kind of issue with the brake circuit such that the car thinks the pedal is not being depressed when required. I think such an issue will also disable the remote start. The whole thing certainly sounds like an electrical challenge. Next time it happens, maybe jiggle the brake pedal and see if that makes a difference.
