I decided to plug my obd reader in my durango for the heck of it. It showed 2 error codes. one is p0562 system voltage low and p1db1 manufacturer control. there are no error or lights on the dash.

anyway I put my voltage meter on the battery non running volts showing 12.54 volts

started the car and voltage on the dash shows 13.2

checked with voltmeter on the battery while running and it shows 13.46

Is that normal readings? I thought the voltage should be around 14 when the engine is running

here are some pics

do I need to get it checked out?

Try it during the day with no lights on and no accessories running, then turn on lights and see how it does. If it drops with a load then it could be a weakening battery or low alternator output but probably weaker battery.

was playing around I was watching the meter when I turned the lights off and it jumped up .2 volts, when I turn back on it dropped .2 points

I seem to remember on here that later 3rd gen Durangos had different charging voltages depending on ambient temperature? I believe it was the colder the temps the higher the charge voltage. Might want to do a search on that?

The 12.9 volt charge reading seems way too low. My 2014 JGC consistently puts out 14.1-14.2 volts according to the cigarette lighter Meter/USB charger I have plugged in all the time. Haven't checked what the gauges show for charge voltage. Need to do that to compare them.

sounds like your alternator is defective. These usually run around 14.4 steady at idle and cruising with no load. Resting battery voltage should be 12.7-12.8 so it could be your battery as well. Get both checked at the dealer. Also, it’s possible the vehicle sat for a long time on the lot and had a dead battery so they jumped it. I have a Noco Genius 7200 battery charger with a setting for AGM (the Battery that these come with). Try hooking up an AGM battery charger to your jump posts and leave it overnight to see if the issue is corrected. I’m really leaning towards a bad battery.

Ripcord:
Are they replacing them under warranty? If both batteries are oem, they should be FCA branded parts.
Hopefully, this will be the cure.

Where is the second battery located?

Dealer replaced both batteries under warranty. Paperwork said tested both batteries with the GR8 both failed

bad cell in both batteries

advisor said I have 3 yr warranty on the new batteries
Glad to hear it's fixed! Almost guaranteed someone let it go dead (VERY dead) on the lot before you bought it for both batteries to have bad cells.

Funny the start stop has its own battery, to me, just my opinion, it’s the worst feature ever created. Couldn’t be more annoying and whatever you think you’ll save in gas, you will pay for with wear and tear , not to mention the ecological damage from all these additional batteries lol... people forget, making and disposing of batteries is probably just as bad for the environment as using fuel
