Whats your configuration?

I have an approx 80 lb Catahoula, and I am coming from a compact SUV where I could just fold the back seats down allowing him to roam the cabin. With the captains chairs in play... I am not sure about whether to put up some kind of net or cage behind them?

I just ordered some Canvasback seat back protectors, any other accessories recommended for a dog owner?

I transport rescue dogs with mine and have it rigged to keep dogs from getting into the front and to separate the 2nd row from the back.
The captains chairs are an issue as they leave a gap between the seats even when folded. If you have the full 2nd row console it's partially solved as the lid flips forward & mostly fills the gap.

I'd recommend a set of the tubular style separators, there are also the grid type (which I use) but they do restrict rearward vision & are really overkill since you only have 1 dog & you know him.
For the seat covers, I'd go with the hammock style. Get the quilted, thick ones as they hold up best and help stabilize the gaps between the seats. Keep an old bed sheet handy in case he gets really dirty/stinky. Easier to toss that over the cover & wash it when you get home than to wash the thick cover which is too big/heavy for most home machines to handle.

Amazon has lots of choices for all this stuff, just poke around.

I got a weathertech tubular divider. It has 2 sets of 2 bars that can extend out, adjustable for height and width. I put it right behind the second row and let my dog hang out in the cargo area with the third row down. I also got a quilted cover to try to keep him off of the seats/bars/sides.

Tip I learned if you do this- dont put the quilt down first. The bars use pressure to lock into the top & bottom, and they will slide around on the quilt and come loose. I set my bars up as close to the seat as I could and put the quilt in front of them, wrapping around the seat.

I have a 100 lb black lab and I have a leash attached to the back floor eyelet, he doesn't pull so the eyelet is still there. He's good and he learned from a pup not to pull.

We have a 110lb Lab/Dane mix that we occasionally have in our '17 Durango R/T. We don't have a 2nd row console so there's not a great way to isolate him without adding some type of fencing or barrier.

For short trips - to the vet or to Pet Paradise - he usually rides with his front paws on the console (covered with a mat) and his head out of the sunroof.

For longer trips we put his bedding on the folded-down 3rd row and he mostly hangs out there.

We have the 2nd row captains with the small console. Our dog is about 42 pounds. I put a little dog bed on top of the center console and she rides there between my boys . If we are going somewhere with her we are using the cargo space and there’s not room back there for her. I realize this wouldn’t work with a dog bigger than mine and she’s a good girl, she rides well and stays where she’s supposed to.

Thanks for all the replies... good stuff. I think I will keep the 3rd row down, and put up a mesh net around the captains chairs, found this on Amazon for $13. This should work just fine, but Bugsy might be annoyed not being able to say Hi during the ride... but gotta protect the Durango.
