So just to add another TT setup to this thread, we have a 2014 DD R/T with the 5.7 V8 and tow package. We just bought about a month ago a 2015 Cruiser Fun Finder F-241LRK TT which is spec'd at about 28 ft. It's actually 30 ft from hitch to bumper. Loaded to go the TT is about 6200#. Tongue weight is about 620# when loaded, 420# dry.
We have an Equalizer 4 1,000/10,000 WDH and a Redarc Tow Pro Elite brake controller.
I did a bunch of research on tow/tongue weights the Durango could handle before we got it and felt that the weight should be significantly under the Durango's limits so we went ahead and got it.
We've been on about 3 weekend trips so far with the longest being about 500 mi round trip plus a bunch of just driving it around the Chicago area several times to test the setup out. So no mountain driving or anything too strenuous.
My feeling is the Durango with the 5.7 handles the weight no problem. The issues I have is with sway, especially at highway speeds over 55 mph. Under that no problems. I usually go about 60 mph towing the TT. At that speed I am almost always feeling at least a little bit of sway, but especially when being passed by semi's ... or even just cars whizzing past at 70 or 80. It's not like it's swaying back and forth like crazy ... but I definitely feel being pulled side to side. My wife even feels it.
I've been pulling boats for years with both this Durango and it's predecessor a 2006 DD and have pulled large cargo trailers from Chicago to Bozeman with this DD with hardly any sway at all. So feeling the sway this much is something I'm not used to.
My feeling after going thru threads on here and other research is probably that the Durango's wheel base is just to short for the length of the trailer.
OR ... the bit of sway I feel is a "normal" thing and I just need to get used to it.
