Starter keeps running when key is released

Hello, I'm a newbe to this forum. I have a second Gen 2006 Durango, 4.7L. the problem is that the starter keeps cranking after I release the key. It's been doing it intermittently for some time until the other day. It stops when I turn it off.
When I pull the relay while its doing this, it stops. I'm leaning towards the solenoid. Any input from anyone?

I would think maybe the solenoid is sticking and keeping the gear in the starter engaged to the fly wheel. But you said it keeps cranking? Like starter is applying power to turn the flywheel?

Well I started with the relay,Then starter switch,then starter and then the key barrel and tumblers. None of it fixed it.
So now I'm stumped. I really don't want to throw more parts and money at it. I just bought a replacement SUV anyway.
If someone wants it, come with trailer and about $500 and its yours.It was a good reliable SUV until this. Upstate NY.
