If you’ve got kids, (IMO) another big plus for the Durango are the optional rear captain chairs. They aren’t available on the Grand Cherokee.

Some hate them, I love them. Having “their own seats” and physical space between the kids helps keep the peace.
I really want the captain chairs also because the seats can't flip up with carseats in them so without a path between it would be much harder to get to the back.

Another you might consider if you're getting a v8 durango is EquiTrek. They have a dealer in...NC? SC? now, and they are fiberglass construction, so less costly. Rear facing with side unload, and some have a "pony size" area in front of the 2 horses if you get a tack room model. They also have a reverse slant layout.

My trainer is sponsored by them so I've had my hands on a few and they're quite interesting.

The huge side load ramp on those is interesting! I've never seen one like that.

It's a very common layout in the UK/Europe. Of course, horseboxes are really the way of things over there and they aren't big on trailers at all, but this layout comes from the horsebox layout.

Someday, if I ever win the lottery, I'll get myself a nice Stephex van.
