Pulled into the gym, put it in park, and got a service shifter message in the heads-up display. Lights went out in the shifter. Turned off the car and restarted it, and everything was normal.

We’ll keep an eye on it, but does anybody have this message? 2018 r/t 2300 miles.

That's a new one, can't say I have heard of that before.

These 18's seem to have electronic gremlins running around. I've had my engine cooling fan kick on high twice, like it was overheating, which it wasn't. Called the service department at my local Dodge dealer, and they said it's probably just a computer glitch. They did say to keep an eye on it if it does becomes more of a problem.

It was 90 degrees outside and had no A/C because the computer thought it was overheating, that sucked LOL!

Yeah you always wonder will these things turn worse or is it a one time deal. I actually found some challenger, ram, and 300 forums where they have had this same message. After quick glance, looks like final fix is to replace the shifter if it keeps happening. Im sure Ill be told to pull the fuse, disconnect the battery, or it needs a quick flash - somethin like that. At least I already have an appt in a week to get my window sweep replaced since it was not installed right at the factory. Ill update if it keeps happening.

Good luck, I hope they can get her fixed for you!

I know in my case, I didn't have any codes, or a message, and I told the service department as much. That's why they said to keep an eye on it, because chances are they wouldn't find anything.

Yours sounds more of a straight forward fix. Sounds like the wiring is loose or something if they ended up replacing the shifter on the other platforms.

Just posted the same problem last night (early this morning actually). Here is what I wrote:

So I've been getting this warning for the last week or so and it usually only comes up when taking off from a stop. If it's at all relevant, I've been getting the warning while under normal acceleration from a stop. The vehicle boggs down from it shifting through the low gears too fast (eco mode). By 15 mph, I'm usually in 3rd or 4th gear. I also got it once while driving in the city at about 45mph.

A search shows other D owners getting the same error but their issue with the error is more so about not being able to shift the vehicle out of park. In the D forums, I'm not seeing any that pertain to my issue. In a Ram forum though, one guy said after his truck kept throwing the error, having them change out the shifter and then a wiring harness didn't fix the problem. He said it took them changing out the valve body in the tranny. I looked up bad valve body symptoms and I don't see my exact issue in the list. I guess I'm covered under the 5/100 powertrain warranty but I'm not sure it'll be easy getting this fixed if the warning comes and goes just on the dash's LCD display.

Any thoughts?

Btw, no dash lights are coming on when I get the warning and I only have two current evap codes from an ODB scan as well as what looks like an old uncleared P0204 injector circuit cylinder 4 code which I guess was fixed before I bought the vehicle.

Happened to me again today and I made an appt for the dealer to look at. Mine shifts fine, but I attached a pic where you can see the car is in gear but the lights on the shifter are not on. Once I shut off and turned back on it was fine. I have noticed there is many times a 3-5 second delay in the shifter lights changing gears after going from park to drive or drive to park, but not sure if thats normal.

this has happened to my 2015 and NOW IT DOESNT WORK AT ALL. 4 years with the car and it stopped working. Started with service shifter then all lights started flickering, windshield whippers started going crazy and car turned off. took pic of error message and now its at dodge

This same thing is happening to me for the last 4 months. Dealer finally replaced the shifter. Less than two months later same service shifter warning comes on, along with the check engine light. Is anyone else still having this issue? Please help, so frustrating!!

I have a 2014 Durango SXT Plus. At 104,000 miles I got the service shifter light and I have the rotary knob. Took it to the dealer and they said the trans if fine but it needed intake /exhaust cams and rocker arms. First issue I have had with it until at 156,000 miles I got service airbag light and that was the wiring harness for the side airbag in the front passenger seat.

WTH??? What does a service shifter light have to do with the engine? Nothing.
Was your engine making noise? Low on power? Check engine light on?
That was my reaction also Chase. The service shifter light would come on and disengage the trans. I would move the dial to neutral and back to drive and it would reengage. The rocker arms did have excess play and wore grooves in the cams. They said the shifter and trans were fine and did no repairs on them. The service shifter has not displayed since.

Did that cost a ton to repair??

Had this 2 weeks ago. Message on dash and the shifter leds were out. I was driving on a stone mountain road. Got home
Turn off and on and the message went out and leds back on.

What happened with yours? Mine did the exact same thing this morning, wipers and all, but it's out of warranty! Ugh.

My wifes 2015 has started doing this. It started with the service shifter message a few weeks ago. Now, won't start, dash and radio lights go on and off, wipers on and off. Had it towed to local dealership and it started up fine several times. No trouble codes were found. Picked it up last night. She drove it to work this morning and it started doing it all again. WTH?

Take it back to the dealer and have them wait overnight to try it in the cold morning. That may be the clue. It might just be a weak battery when it's cold as the Durangos are sensitive to the battery condition.

My 19sxt did this while driving on a stone mountain road. After restart it went away.
