Guys,

More kids on the way. It's time to move on from this amazing car I've had. Pic below is with old KMC wheels. The front end pic is the new wheels.

She's just turned 100k the other day.

KBB has it @ $16k - $19k. Is this a fair amount?

I've looked after her like you wouldn't believe. She's in great nick! All she doesn't have is Captain Chairs and DVD. Has everything else. Nappa Leather, red stitching etc.
  • Thule AreoBlade roof bars
  • I added the tow package myself. Already has wiring harness.
  • Tints, front two windows, taillights and front visor strip.
  • Corsa exhaust, special order.
  • 22” premium wheels, Hellcat.
  • Nitto Tires
  • Mopar Cold Air Intake
  • Rubber WeatherTech mats.
  • Weather Tech window/air deflectors
  • Dodge logo side stickers (black)
  • Red Start Button
  • Husky Linker for trunk
  • Brand new water pump as of Feb 15th, 2019.
  • Brand new Transmission Oil Cooler
  • Red MGP Dodge engraved caliper covers
  • Brand New carpets never been out the packets.
  • Brand New Parcel shelf never bee used.

In my experience dealers will start at the low end off KBB/NADA values, so they'll probably throw out $16K-17K. You could probably get closer to $20K selling privately.

Nice ride. I’d bet the dealers will not care much about your mods and won’t increase the value because of them. I had that issue on a car I modded - they could care less. Private selling would get you the most money but requires more effort if you’re up to it.

Don’t forget the tax savings on a trade in too....at that price the difference might not be too much.

Just traded my 15 DD ralley v6 with 48k on it. Initial offer from the dealer was $13500. After hours of negotiating, I got 17k for it. Never take the first offer and be ready to walk when the lowball you. They just sold it for $23k.

Unfortunately, he's ^^ right about the mods. They could care less. If anything, in their eyes it actually hurts the value and makes it harder to appeal to all crowds beyond the younger ones if it looks and sounds like a "hot rod".

Good luck to you.

Tax savings? Because it lowers the tax on the new vehicle?

Are you looking for trade in value v private sale v dealer retail?
Whatever is more valuable. I got someone wanting $18.5k for it private. Dealer said they can match it but I think it’s just bait to wait my time.

Interesting another dealership said $11k haha..really weird.

Another thing you can do is have Carmax appraise it for you. I guess you can do it for free, and then you know for sure what it's worth.

I also agree with the others, mods are awesome for the owner, not so much the dealership. Mostly because they can't warranty aftermarket parts for the next buyer.

If you want more out of it, especially with all the mods, private selling it is definitely the way to go. You will most definitely never see the money on a trade in from all the extras unfortunately.

Unfortunately its worth whatever someone will pay you. Everything said previously is accurate. I'm trying to part with my 18 RT... Various evaluation sites state its worth between anywhere from $32k to $40k... I've been offered up to $36,500 for it (VROOM, haven't tried Carmax yet). Hope you find something that works for you!

Is there a reason you are trying to sell your 18 RT now?
Is it the blue one in your avatar?

Lots of good advice in here...it is pretty common knowledge dealers make most of their $$ off of used car sales, thus the ridiculous low ball offers. The first offer is typically laughable. Good luck! I usually try to get KBB trade in value whatever the "excellent" condition price is.

Career and life changes; used to be in sales and they reimbursed mileage, which was most of my 20k average annual miles... took a desk job, so mileage will drop to 6k-10k a year with no reimbursement. Durango went from justifiable to a complete luxury. So I'm trying to be financially smart and part with it.

I would have taken $36,500. That is a fair price IMO.
2020's are going to be out soon so its value is only going to drop.
I'm still considering it; I've had a few interested parties at or around the asking price. Just hard to stomach an over $12k depreciation in a single year... ;( ~$56k MSRP, paid $53k out the door (with taxes, protection, fees etc), and now its worth less than $40k... really I'm just trying to minimize my loss, but I know the 2020s are about to drop, and they still have 18s and 19s on the lots around the nation; but they don't have any B5 RTs sitting on the lot!! My one saving grace!

Any vehicle first year depreciation is at least $10,000. That is the norm.

We just trade a 2015 Durango Limited V6 with 49,600 miles and the dealership gave us $20,000 for it. We picked up a 2018 Durangot R/T Blacktop, with Tow Group, Cargo Plus group, Sunroof and 20inch gloos black wheels. Had 17,000 miles on it. Looked brand new. Like literally brand new. Paid $39,500 for it.

Taking off whatever mods you can and then selling them is the only way to recover any of that $$. As said, the dealer doesn't give two toots about the mods and would actually probably prefer they not even be there. A private party would be happy to buy whatever you can remove.

I think the tax suggestion was as you said, to reduce the total amount of purchase on the next one so your outlay will be less. Any time you can avoid paying BS taxes to the government is always OK with me...
