3 days after taking delivery of my new 2014 Durango RT I began hearing what sounded like a marble rolling around under the floor. The sound was emanating on the drivers side near the door, and it would roll around constantly. 3+ days in the shop and many calls to Dodge the dealer (although not the dealer I purchased from) located "a small screw" of unknown origin "came loose".

One month later and I now am experiencing a similar issue except this time it is emanating from under the center armrest/storage area. It is intermittent, so if it falls in a particular craves it will remain quiet until it pops out. I took it to the dealer (the dealer I purchased from) and they were unable to replicate the issue. They were aware that the issue had been documented by Dodge and there is a record which they can pull up using my vin.

I was told by the Service Manager that they did not want to "lift up the carpet and perform exploratory surgery". I have contacted Dodge and have another appointment scheduled for next week at a different dealership.

Question #1:
Has anyone experience or heard of this issue?

Question #2:
Any suggestions on resolving this issue?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

sounds strange. I'm no expert and have only owned my Durango for a couple weeks. I did a lot of research and can't say I heard anything like this before. Hopefully it's not as serious as you think.

No
No
and that sux for you. hope you find the issue, 99.9% sure it is an isolated item to your D. Explore yourself and see what you find. Did you purchase the lifetime warranty?

I don't have that particular issue but I do have the rear strut noise. I will agree that my dealer too will not go out on a limb to try anything. They need a exec order (a TSB) to solve a problem.
Many moons ago, I was a rookie tech at a Lincoln merc dealer. There was a town car that had a bad rattle in the dash. IIRC it wound up being a structural defect-a bad weld or something. What I do remember was ripping that car down until it was found and having zone (factory) support. I just don't see that happening today regardless of brand.

I have a loose screw or something similar in the left rear door. It only makes noise rarely so I have let it be.
Same here. There's something lose to the left of my steering wheel near the A pillar that only rattles on some occasions and when it does, it's only when there's turbulent wind coming in the engine. So it only really does on occasions on the interstate doing 70-75+. Problem is where I live, I'm not close to an interstate. If you can't get up to that speed, being a 55 speed limit, you can't replicate it and you can't fix it. I even recorded the noise on my phone and they blew it off because they couldn't replicate it. It sucks... I feel your pain man. Hope it gets resolved. I know how annoying that sort of thing can be.

Don't really see how this is a "serious problem" with your D?

I had a similar issue with sliding/rattle sounds. I found two dimes in the driver door panel, just pried open the bottom a bit and they fell out. I also found a nickel and a loose nut in the bin under the driver seat.

^^Offending nickle, lol

I suppose it should be incredibly annoying problem.

Maybe it should be incredibly annoying problem. I guess I used the word serious because I am seriously annoyed that I just spent $48k on my R/T which has spent a total of 7 days in the shop in the past 6 weeks.

Imagine driving around with what sounds like a marble rolling around on bouncing off metal and plastic. I have another service appointment on Tuesday the 11th. (4th time in shop) less than 2 months old.

Sorry to hear, I understand your aggravation. Try to look on the "Bright Side"....some people walk around and hear that marble rolling and bouncing around in their heads. Some people have more marbles than others of course.... Oh.and there is " NO FIX" either.

I took it to another dealership on Tuesday.. they had it for 2 days and did not even pull up the carpet to look. The Service Manager told me that "Dodge wont let them
open things up unless they can replicate the sound. I took it home and 24 hours later it is still rolling around. I received an email from Dodge informing me that the dealing informed then that the issue has been resolved.

I am beyond aggravated. I think the only option I have is to pay a mechanic to do the work.
This is why so many people refuse to purchase a domestic vehicle. I never thought I would think that way.

Any suggestions ??

Time to escalate this. Contact corporate and make a complaint. Take it to yet another dealer. Keep documenting the issue. Learn about the lemon law in your state. Take a video with audio documenting the complaint. Complain to your Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. Companies generally don't like open cases with these folks and will work to get them closed satisfactorily.

I know you're mad about this but unfortunately this isn't just a domestic problem. I can promise you that. I've got a good many friends having hard dealing with Nissan and Toyota at the moment.

Escalation to the corporate level is the next step. And another step I would start doing, and I'm serious, is post your complain on the Dodge FB page. I would almost bet it will get attention. Show you're irritable in the posts, but don't rant like a lunatic. Lay out the full problem and the dealings you've had so far. I've seen more people getting motion on issues getting corporate attention in the social media realm.

Social media has started working wonders in the problem solving areas. Its so easy to tell masses of people the problems that are being ignored and people remember the bad things rather than good. Makers hate this and will find it cheaper to stomp the problem out rather than try to save a couple of bucks that can kill income later. Not just for cars but all consumer products.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, BUT.. I am facing same situation.

Marble sound coming from under drivers seat. Can’t seem to find how to remove plastic bin that’s under the seat. I’m 99% sure the offending object is under plastic bin and bouncing around metal tub from the unibody.

Anyone out there has some insight?

Can't help, but years ago I heard a story (true or not, don't know) of a guy who bought a new Chevrolet and had a similar issue. Pulling out from a stop, he'd hear something rolling and a clang; coming to a stop, heard it again.
Dealer could replicate the noise, and worked on the car for quite a while. Finally they just started taking it apart. Found a glass soda bottle between the body and frame. Had been left there during assembly. It would roll back and forth, depending on which direction the car was moving.

To open the tub, slide the drive seat all the way forward, you'll see a piece of carpet that covers the tub. gently pry it up until the clips release.
