I have been having some issues with starting since the summer months. At first I thought it was vapor lock but now that it's cooling off, that's not the case. I replaced the spark plugs a few months ago and it helped, but now has gotten worse. It seems that the longer it sits, the worse it's to start. It now smells like fuel bad when it starts. When it does start, it coughs and sputters for about 15-30 secs. It's also now starting to get some bad idling problems while stopped in gear. It'll start surging and running rough until it gets above idle. Any ideas?

If no codes are present My Bet is going with Bad Battery!!

First thing to check is a load test on battery, If it passes come back here, if it doesn't, replace! If it does pass load test, their can be a number of things, from IAC, TPS, Bad spark plug wires, vac leak, coil, etc. Should do some searching here, threi are a lot of post reguarding your situ.

When the computer senses weak current and voltage problems from the battery it'll cause problems one of which isn't firing the plugs, hence fuel dumps in cylinders and out tailpipe.
If the battery is original it's doomed

thanks everyone. I'll definitely check the battery. I have noticed the lights dimming quite a bit at night when I use the power windows. I looked at the battery and it's original. I guess I'll be going to O'Reilly's tonight.
I did have a code a few weeks ago. I think it was INJECTOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. But I couldn't find any info on that code. The check engine light was NOT on, I just scanned it just to make sure since it had been running horrible.

I didn't think they were replaceable. Mine is the coil on plug, I think. Just checking

Your right, should haven't put it in, I have the 5.9 and a Hemi, both have SPW's.

I should have put an "s" on the end of the coil.

and, just to confuse things, some Hemi's (like mine) have no plug wires (they have 2 coils per cylinder), and some 4.7's (the newer, higher-output version) DO have plug wires?
