Hey all,

Anyone else seeing issues with their auto dim bright lights ? I think this comes with the tech package and is supposed to dim the brights automatically when approaching traffic. This works brilliantly in my wifes 2016 JGC Overland. However in my 2015 R/T it will leave the brights on, engage the brights while oncoming traffic is approaching, flash on and off at people, and generally just pisses everyone off. Anyone know how this system works and is there perhaps a software update ? I hope they will not have to replace the whole windshield to fix this, I know the sensor seems to be right under the rear view mirror.

I didn't care for how it worked on my '18, so I disabled the feature in the settings. Works great in my wife's new Honda tho !

Same here, I don't like the way it works in my '14 Limited. It seems to stay off more than what I want/need due to light being reflected back by road signs or maybe now in the winter with road grim/salt all over the top of the windshield it is fooling the sensor - not sure, but I just keep the setting disabled and work the high beams manually.

If you have had your window replaced and the tech touches the sensor it won't work with an oily fingerprint on it. Ask me how I know. Luckly the dodge dealer contracted the replacement to abra and had to replace the sensor free of charge.

Something's not right.
Mine in my '14 works flawlessly. Not in my '06 300C however, where it is slow to respond and once did not turn the high beams off for an on-coming cop. He was not happy!

ok so update here, 3 years later, these auto dim bright lights in my DD RT really suck balls. Great way to get pulled over !

They will usually turn on the brights but not turn them off. You can get a line of cars, 10 or so coming and about 1/2 the time it wont turn off brights. Sometimes it will turn off and back on, so now the cop thinks you are actually flashing high beams at him to earn yourself extra awards...

Ive had it back into dealer 2 times now. The 2nd time they replaced the headlight switch. As if thats got anything to do with it (it didnt).

So I guess this on me, where can I find out some info on this auto dimming system ? I know the headlight sensor is up behind the rear view mirror, how do I get to it though ? Im thinking of just taking it out and "breaking it" and going back to the dealer so they are forced to replace this, as Im pretty sure the sensor is what is causing this. Its not sensative enough to lights.

And I know what everyone means, when it is working, its flawless. My wifes 2017 JGC Overland has it and I LOVE IT ! In my Durango tho, something is a bit .. dodgey with it.

Any help pointing me to some more info on this system is greatly appreciated !!

Anyone have any service info on this yet for me ? If I cant fix it myself Im going to "break" it in such a way that they are forced to replace the sensor eye under the rear view mirror.

But I would love to try to fix this myself.

I just took my kid skiing last week in NC after the big snowfall, we left Atlanta at 4am and got up to ski area just after 7am. Definitely the best time to travel thru rural mtn towns is 4am! However, the auto bright light feature was a total pain. It failed me on about every chance to auto dim, so I just turned off that feature.

Hate it that it works so well on wifes Jeep Grand and is all messed up on ,my Durango RT...

Anyway, any service help regarding this auto bright light system, how to diagnose, take apart, ect ... would be so much appreciated !!!!

I recently had the opposite experience. My lights were dimming from the high beams at the appropriate times, then the high beams stopped working all together when auto bright was activated. I had to manually turn off the setting and my high beams now function normally when I activate them with the lever.

I added it to my '14 Durango a couple months ago. I first added it to my Ram and liked it so well the Durango had to have it. The sensor is part of the rear view mirror. If you have a low tint strip on the windshield or something that partially blocks the sensor, it won't work. A friend of mine was complaining about it not working because they didn't understand how it worked. They had like an 8" tint strip on the windshield and it was low enough that it blocked the oncoming lights from hitting the sensor correctly.

ive got no tint on the windshield, its acted a-fool since day 1. Although in my case its more prone to just leave the high beams on, or for some idiotic reason, flash them once or twice at oncoming traffic, as if to test my luck if its a cop or a Ms-13 gang member lol. Thanks dodge.

Anyway, wondering what the best way would be to "help" my local C- intelligence dealer to just replace the rear view. Im sure the photoeye in the light sensor is defective, theres no real way to fix that. But I have to make the tards at Palmer Dodge understand that and solve it for me. Im thinking of just clipping a wire in there somewhere if its easy enough to get at. But I havent looked at it yet.

Last time they insisted on replacing the headlight switch for no apparent reason other than to say they did something and get the vehicle out of there before happy hour started. Now Im off the factory warranty and will have to pay a $100 ded for max care, so I need to them really fix it this time...

and I know it CAN work brilliantly. It does in my wifes JCG Overland. Its like a jedi knight or something, knows exactly when to turn off and turn back on the high beams, even better than I could. I love it, especially in rural areas. I just gotta make the R/T work correctly, somehow...

Jump on ebay and watch for an auto high beam mirror. I paid $50 for mine by watching ebay for a couple days.

ok so you are suggesting I replace the entire rear view mirror ?

Part number handy, by chance ?

Would there be some way that I could "help" my local dealer arrive at the decision to replace this stupid thing for me, say if I took off the mirror and maybe did something to it so it would stop working half way and just not work at all ?

In almost 4 yrs of ownership, this is like the 1 thing that is consistently pissing me off. Everything else is surprisingly working quite well, and I still think even today its 1 of the BEST looking 3 row SUVs out there.

Anyone have p/n or tutorial on how to remove the rear view from windshield ?

I’m going to bite billet and go buy another 1. Got verbal warning from police for using high beams, just have to Disable auto high beams now. Not sure why this happens. Sometimes it works great.

Wonder if max care would cover it?
