I have an appointment with a dealership to order a 2019 Durango GT Plus AWD tomorrow. I went over last Saturday and we went through a few different trims and configurations and, with each, they quoted me $500 over FWP, minus any incentives that might be available when I go to pay for it.

How low should I reasonably expect them to go in negotiations? I assume that I should negotiate the price before I order it? I hate the whole haggling bit, but I also hate being taken advantage of.

TIA.
Alan

Was there something unique with your configuration that they couldn’t find nearby? My experience is that you can get a better deal buying off the lot than ordering. Not sure why that is the case, but that is the impression I’ve got after ordering 2 vehicles.

Got an update today. I have a VIN now and a D1 status, meaning it's in the queue. The estimated ship date is 11/24 and then I'll have to wait for the train to get to the local drop-off point and a subsequent truck to get it to the dealership.

Hopefully your salesperson meant 600 miles. 6000 miles could be in Europe or Russia! I surely doubt that.

I took it for the exaggeration that I’m sure it was. I’ve looked around online since and still haven’t found a regular stock vehicle that meets my requirements, so I’m more convinced than ever that I was right to do a custom order.

I discovered that the dealer has an affiliate program with some employers and mine is one of them. I got 1% below dealer invoice. That seemed reasonable to me.
me too! pleasant surprise

Moving inventory is always a better option for a dealer. If everyone came in and bought special ordered vehicles they would be stuck with inventory that they already paid for. Every day that car sits on the lot is an expense they would rather not have, for obvious reasons.

What is FWP if you please? And also how did you determine the "Dealer Invoice" price?
