Having my Kooks LT headers and mid pipes with high flow cats installed next week on my 2013 Durango R/T 5.7L with 42,000 miles on it. Have a Diablo tune ready to go. Question is should I replace the O2 sensors while the LT headers are getting installed? If so does anyone have a suggested brand for O2 replacement? Also has anyone had any issues with CEL or codes?

I reused mine from the stock exhaust except for one that was so frozen in, the threads were stripped. Replaced it with NGK from NAPA Auto. Never threw a code.

Hey SteveMLS................As far as the Kooks LT header install, did you have everything needed in the materials they sent you to complete the job? I've heard that some people have had to buy additional O2 sensor extensions to complete the install.

Also my next mod is the Edelbrock Victor II ported intake.............Questions is did you install the headers and intake at the same time? Did you see a nice boost in performance by just adding the intake?

Thanks for your time.

Scott, everything was included with the Kooks headers to complete the install. I did install the intake & headers at the same time, I seemed to have lost a little low end torque, which is expected with long tube headers, but half throttle and mid range WOT is when it shines. I have the 1 7/8" primary with the intention of adding a Procharger in the future. Also considering a set of 3.70 front & rear diffs that should correct the low end torque loss.

Exhaust pipe or manifold?

The edelbrock manifold does not have good reviews on the 5.7. Jay from greene racing said they have been noticing power loss with it. Get your oem manifold polished and you’ll be good or do the 6.4 swap.

Get the Stage 8 header bolts set for the header to head mount. They have a great locking system so that you don't have to re-torque them later on. I've used them for years with no problems at all. Good manifold gaskets are the only way to fly, specially if your going to put on the pro-charger later. Spend the money and go to gasket less clamps on the headers, like v-mount or ball mount clamps.

Put the 1.75” LTs on my truck and love em! It comes complete, minus an extensions for the rear O2 sensor. You’ll need to buy a set, got mine from summit racing, I believe they were $25 a pop, total of $50. Reusing then is totally fine, I did as well on mine. You just have to be careful when uninstalling and reinstalling the O2 sensors. If you are rough with them, they will becoming faulty, they don’t handle impacts and being roughed up real well. If you need to buy new ones, go with NGK ones, very similar to oem. Also, the stage 8 is clutch! Didn’t put em on at first because I didn’t have time. The bolts backed out and were not at the required torque spec. Retightened them back down and installed the stage 8 kit, problem solved. It eliminates the backing out by having the fastener back out until it makes contact with the header.

Heard the same about the victor II manifold. As well as the 6.1 and 6.4L, just port and polish up the 5.7 and allow the air to flow unimpeded. Going to do that mod with a 88mm fastman TB next month.

The 6.4 will help but only if the active runners are wired to work. If it’s left to just stay on the short runners the top end suffers.

Good point and you are correct. Guess it comes down to the kind of $ you wanna spend. $325 opposed to $1000 Is a lot easier on the pocket book. More than likely there’ll be a slight peak gain, but the curve could be very similar. Leaving you to ask yourself is minimal peak worth the additional coin?...

Hey one more questions regarding this...................Should I take it easy for a few days and let things kind of melt together or is it ok to get on it right away and let things get hot? Thinking mainly about the exhaust manifold gasket. It should be done today.

Should be good to go right away. No need to use Stage8 bolts either, use the bolts from a 6.1 or 6.4 and you'll be fine.

Just got my headers and mid pipes done and the person installing it said the drivers side mid pipe was to close to the short brace. He had to lower that brace by 3/8" and it still rattles when you get on it. Did anyone else have this problem? What did you do to correct it? Also seems like I lost quite a bit of low end torque even after the tune from Sean at Hemifever.

Dent the tube so that it has more clearance.

Had this issue. Did exactly what Durango freak said, took a ball and pin hammer to it for a few good whacks to create that clearance. No damage to pipe or performance, problem solved.
