Looks like y'all are doomed to yet another gathering without a PURPLE D, unless Durangutan steps up? (Dude- Go! Trust me!)
OK, I'm wayyyy late on this, I know. I can't go. Anyway, who wants to see a stock 98 purple D with stock little ugly wheels and rust above the rear wheel? Well, besides me. I'd love to go sometime though.

Plant FYI!! I heard last night on the news about a possible strike at some of the Chrysler plants including maybe Newark. To happen sometime this week. If they do, will this effect the tour adgenda for our meet assuming the strike will last that long? Steve, if you have any insider info on this matter please pass it on to us.

Hey Odie I'm flying solo like always, so if you need a ride over to the plant or back let me know. Or like someoe else said. Drive it over with them and leave her bring the D back.

They (Chrysler employees) may strike tomorrow. With GM, it was a 2 day deal (walkout) and hadn't happen for 2 decades. I'd be shocked to find out they (Chrysler workers) would be on strike for 10+ days. Keep in mind however, if they (the new owners) have an inventory glut? a couple of days with no production, added debt to the unions (strike pay) and getting the consessions they're looking for could be well worth it for them to have a strike for at least a few days. I'm betting it'll still be touch and go come tour time.

Ok folks,
They anticipate it will be resolved shortly as the only reason for the strike was a time deadline was not met.
I Spoke with Joann at the Durango Plant today to confirm we're still a go for next week and we're absolutely still a go!
Their plant was on an off week so there was no strike there and there'll be no problem at all.
I also confirmed a rounded head count with her.

Herman and I did our own little tour at the car show at the Texas State Fair and yes, those are Chevy hats we're wearing? Dodge wasn't giving anything away free. Which reminds me?

Although the official "birth" date of the DOC is listed as March 17, 1998, the actual date was sometime in October 1997. We used March '98 because that's when the first "official" announcement of the formation of the DOC was made and it went public - after many months of start-up stuff. So, while you're quaffing a few at the plant tour this year, raise a glass to the 10th anniversary of this thing. One whole decade; amazing!!

For old timers, Herman Ascher will be remembered. For newbies, Herman was critical to the successful start-up of this thing and remained so for 3 or 4 years. Much of what the DOC is today is attributable to his efforts.

Hi everyone;

Time is slipping by wayyyyy too fast. It seems like just yesterday that the counter was installed, and it read 80+ days.

For me, looks like I'll head out around 0600 Thursday morning, and drive straight through which should get me into Newark around 4:00pm. After this Saturday, I have 11 days in a row off. (Yahoo!!)

On a sour note, my wife managed to back out of our garage on the 10th right into the front of my D. Body shop says ~$1k for the D, and ~$2k for her GCV. D goes in Monday, and supposed to be done Wednesday in time to leave Thursday.

I saw Indy's post saying that he's heading out Wednesday. That would be a more relaxing way to make the 600 mile trip driving just ~300 miles a day. It'd make an extra day in a hotel though which adds expense.

Hopefully the petrol prices will stay closer to $2.50/gal than $3 the next few weeks.

I'm looking forwrd very much to putting faces and names with the many folks who hang out here at the DOC.

As we all know, the fun part is piling in the car for the begining of the adventure, and the hard part is realizing that the trip has flown by and it's time to head for home.

BTW: I don't know if anyone is thinking of bringing any parts to swap, but I still have my NV233 Xfer case that I'd love to find a new home for. I have my eye on a new ham radio toy, and I can use the bucks.

Let me know if anyone can put it to good use.

The road gods are against me. My D has gone and let me down. The front seal on my MS tranny has gone the way of the Dodo and needs to be replaced. Can't get it finished before I'd have to leave for Newark. I'm DISGUSTEDLY having to fly in. It must be a communist plot or something. To make matters worse, Karen is smiling gleefully, as she really didn't want me to be gone so long without her anyway. AARGHH.

I really don't want to toast a tranny trying to drive it with a bad seal. Finding someone on I-40 that could fix it and do it right would be next to impossible, and prohibitive time wise.

At least I'm trying for a Dodge product for a rental. That's what I'm being told I'm getting.

Hey sorry to hear about the troubles. If you need a lift from the airport, if there's one nearby, I could pick ya up if you want to save on the rental. I'm sure there's room to hop in with myself and various others. I'll be there midday Thurs but will be leaving Fri evening. Just throwing it out there!

At least I'm going to do a little sight seeing on this run. I fly into Baltimore and drive up, then drive to NC for awhile before flying out of Charlotte to come home. Lots of pretty country inbetween those 2 airports. It'll actually be cheaper to fly and rent a car for the entire time than to drive at 12.5 on premium fuel. lol.
