Has anyone dealt with these or does anyone have opinions on these?I've been on the Dakota-durango website and people there are sayin these are just as good as cai.
Thanks

They breathe as good as CAI filter cones, but since their mounted on top of engine, I'd lean on lots of hot air introduced from radiant heat of engine

BTW, I did have that round setup on my old 93 dak 318 (I still have it in the garage), I noticed no change from the OEM setup (Back then OEM was the enclosed round filter), Then I got the K&N 2nd gen System for the D and moved the D's OEM Air hat, aftermarket tube and cone filter to this truck, noticed an improved takeoff immediately!

The only thing is I have heard that the theory about hot air in the engine compartment is a myth, because when the vehicle is moving the hot air is being replaced by air from the outside as the air is constantly moving throughout the compartment?not trying to say that you're wrong, but this is what I have heard.

Also I'm considering getting a scoop for the truck?would this help?

Yes ther will be SOME air movement but mush of it's from the fan which is blowing hot air from the radiator. Take a feel on a warmed up vehicle and see how hot the blast is. Heat only rises. There's a lot coming off of the engine and exhaust manifold. Hey get a small thermometer and attach it to the underside of the hood. Run around for a whil , then check the temp as a test. If you had an open cowl hood, that would greatly help in that area.

so in theory if I put a decent looking hood scoop(foward) and functional?will it work in theory

There's a formula for the hp gain for every degree cooler the air is going into the engine versus the air temp around the engine. Cooler air does make a difference. By placing a heat shield to block the heat radiating from the engine from the intake you lower the air temp going into the engine. The K&N will make a difference. The shield bblocks the air from the fan and the heat from the engine pretty well. The air flow through the fender cutouts that are there does seem to make a difference. It'd work even better with a snorkle or ram air intake like the old GTO had.
