Hey everyone, I’m debating whether i should go for the extended warranty from dodge. Is it worth it? How much did they quote those who took it? Are the things that seem to breakdown on it even covered with the extended warranty?

Thanks!

JY:
Your question is a common one. It depends on how long you intend to keep your D, and whether a major repair (say $1-2K) would be a serious detriment to your budget. Clay Robbins is the go to guy for the best quote on an FCA backed plan. Many have gotten plans through him (myself included).

If you don't think you will have your D much beyond the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty, then having a warranty extension would not make sense.

I definitely want to keep it 10+ years. Does Clay Robbins deal with Canadian/Quebec customers as well?

I see one common problem is the racetrack tail light and water pumps, is what covered under the extended warranty?

Thanks!

I think it's been said that the racetrack light is not covered. I can't say for sure, but I seem to recall that; I hope I'm wrong.

The EW seems to be pretty cheap for the Durango; that makes it worth getting IMO. I have yet to buy one but probably will.

The cheap price seems to contradict the bad reputation FCA has for reliability; if these cars were truly unreliable the math doesn't add up. BMW X5 owners pay triple what we do for EW's yet those have higher reliability ratings. Go figure.

I paid $1,700 for my lifetime max care thinking I was going to keep my '14 R/T till it can't be repaired, you can find places online (that was 4 years ago). Funny thing is this forum saved me, I paid $2,400 or so for a 75K mile warranty when I bought the DD and I saw on this forum places to get a lifetime for cheaper. I called by dealer and asked them to cancel my 75K and then they offered me a lifetime for a 100 mucks more than I could get it online and I was fine w that. Shows you how much that snake finance mgr was making off the add ons after you head is spinning from writing a massive down payment check and feeding me McDonalds

I have mine out and the light is on back order, as far as I can tell it will be covered by my max care warranty. I had my water pump replaced last month covered under power-train warranty at 55K miles and the pump was back ordered as well. They put in an aftermarket one, but I demanded an oem one once it is available.

Thanks Humy. If Max Care is taking care of these, that's probably what I'll get.
You'll find most of these discount places won't sell to you because you're in FL.
The greedy assed FL Dealers Assoc. & our butt licking legislators have rigged FL OE extended warranty sales so that everyone has to pay full price !

Any Canadian's getting the Gold 5 Year 100,000km Warranty? I got quoted $2,195 from my purchasing dealer and $2,395 from another dealer. I'm an planning on keeping the Durango for the 5 year mark and probably not more than that before buying another vehicle, but not sure if I'd rather just keep the $2,500 (with 13% tax) in the bank and use it if I ever need it. I just know that with the more and more technology in the vehicles that if something does go it can start to add up quick.

From what I'm told the "regular" price of the Gold Plan is $2,895. There is the Gold+ package above this yet but that one is about another $700 more just for that and incudes all the regular Oil Changes within the 100,000km. (every 8-10,000km from the service manual)

I just had my race track center light replaced yesterday under my lifetime MaxCare warranty along with the plastic trim piece in front of rear, driver side window.
The plastic piece installed would have been $90 and the race track light $1,300. I paid $100 deductible. I am only $400ish dollar away from having my Maxcare already paid for at 55K miles. I really love this truck, but if i had to pay $1,300 for that rear light yesterday I would feel alot different today.

@ 18 DRT:
Be sure that whatever you get is the FCA backed plan, and not a 3rd party vendor unless the seller will guarantee it should the administrator go belly up.
Anything backed by FCA should be good. Dealers will often push the 3rd party stuff because there is more money in it up front for them.

@ Humy:
Glad to hear that your dealer replaced the race track under the Max Care. We have had reports that some dealers have declined to do so. It is not a light bulb, rather an electronic light assembly that should be covered given the ridiculous price tag, and poor reliability record.

You are wrong, as Humy mentioned also, at least in terms of MaxCare. But you'll probably have to "convince" the dealer that it's covered. I mentioned in a different thread how the SA at the dealership told me it was not covered because "bulbs, sealed beams, and lenses" are not covered items. I went to the same dealership's parts guy and asked for the part number to replace the sealed beam, taillight bulb or taillight lens on my D, none of which exist obviously and he confirmed such. Then I went back to the SA and told him his parts guy said there are no bulbs, lenses, or sealed beams on the back of my truck to not be covered. He said he'd look into it then came back with "I gave the part number to MaxCare and it is a covered part." From that incident I learned you may have to push the SA a little in order for them to accept that something is covered. You can also call MaxCare directly and find out if something is covered or not before even talking to the SA.

To answer the original post question... I have found my purchase of the MaxCare EW to be worth what I paid for it (although it looks like I paid a lot more than other folks here have). It replaced a transmission for me at about 50k and included a free loaner car for the whole time the work was being done (which I think was just shy of two weeks). It paid for itself in that alone but it's also gotten me two new racetrack taillight assemblies (which are close to $1,000 each), a new front ACC radar (a $1500 part), a new motor mount, a new oil pump or oil pump sending unit or something like that, a new fuel door, a new "entertainment hub" (that's the poorly placed aux/usb/sd cluster in that tray thing below the center of the dash), and I think it replaced my 8.4 radio/everything else/touchscreen thing once too. ... That's all I can think of at the moment but in my opinion that's plenty to have justified its value.

I have a pretty good relationship with the dealer and they love my DD with the Magnaflow, it always attracts attention from the service guys as the beast shakes the doors when I pull in. Also, the "please do not wash" sign I leave on the speedometer shows how much I care for the truck, because the dealer car wash is all bristles and I only use touchless on her. But then a mile from the car wash I will touch her to wipe off the last water drops. Love this truck

TwoScoops - I'm amazed you got the racetrack lights covered under Maxcare. I even got an email from Maxcare (I have the lifetime w/ $100 ded on my '14 DD with 76K miles) stating the PART was covered and took the email to the dealership. The dealership then called Maxcare for repairs over a $1000 and told them they took a garden hose to the racetrack lights and the filled it up with water. Maxcare then declined coverage because even though the PART is covered, water intrusion is not (seal). I need to go to your dealership to see how they worked their magic with Maxcare. It seems that every time I go to the dealership (only for warranty repairs) it is always a battle to convince them a repair is covered by MaxCare.

Wow, I would be fuming. You may have missed a few words in your post. The dealer said they took a hose to the lights? Did you try going back to the dealer you bought the DD from?

It was the dealer I bought it from but the service department is horrible and the only one (Dodge) in Lincoln Nebraska. Yep, the mechanic said he saw humidity in the racetrack taillights so he actually took a water hose and sprayed it down (I had just washed it!). That filled up the entire lighting unit like I have never seen before. Even though the part is covered, MaxCare said they made a mistake by not telling me in their email the "intrusion" is not covered and the "seal" is not covered. Then once the stealership filled the entire racetrack housing unit with water up to the white lighted area, they didn't know how to drain it until I showed them the 10mm bolts and we watched the water drain out. I haven't had a chance to check what additional damage their water test did. See my post in the "Poll" section.

What drives me most insane is the inconsistency as to why sometimes this is covered by MaxCare and other times not. My guess is that it all depends if the dealership tells MaxCare about any water in the lamp. Word of advice - if you have this issue, dry out your lights with the 10mm bolts out and don't mention to the stealership any water intrusion ever.

I have a 17 Durango RT and was just quoted $4195 without tax for the lifetime max care through mopar. Unlimited miles and unlimited time. I’m in Sarasota Florida. This sound insane to everyone else? I’m below the 40k miles mark, which apparently is where it goes up even more.

Contact Clay Robbins, he gave me a great pricing. There are many posts in the forum about him. I am sharing his updated email below.
