I daily a CTS-V and bought this for my wife. Have an older 997s as a weekender.
I have to agree about the power deliver, and it has plenty of hustle for a family hauler. The 6.4 liter sounds like some engineers spent some time getting the sound just right. Transmission:Compared to the VW AG DSG in the RS5, yeah maybe not as quick but we’re remember this is a 5500lb SUV. More than adequate and it can tow more than 4 tons. I like the long wheelbase too.Not only can throw more gear in the back but, the balance is excellent for such large thing. Only wishes are that they offered a full leather option and the Harmon Kardon like they do in the summits and wk2 SRTs. Also, I prefer the scoop less hood of the wk2. Find another vehicle in this class with as much utility for under $70k. Doesn’t exist. The GL 63 or whatever they’re calling it these days damn near double the price with options. Even gets almost 18 on road trips now that it’s broken in.

The Cherocat is obviously next level. In terms of real world performance without pushing a bunch of buttons to achieve the objective, this rig will walk most of what’s out there at the stop light. Those 6.2s sound vicious. It’s special. However, it’s hard to beat the sound of the 6.4. Naturally aspirated induction sound is just so epic. The afformentioned RS5s v8 not withstanding, I think the 392 is over the better sounding motors. Guess it just depends on what you’re looking for. For $100k, I think the choice gets a bit more complex and I might be going with a new CTS-V(with change to spare) E63 or M5. Just depends. I think I go Durango for this reason.

I love that Dodge included similar hardware on my three row suv

Brake dust is my nemesis...
Yes... the stereo is the weak link [emoji52]. My wife’s JSRT has the upgraded audio pack and it sounds 10x better than my DSRT... in fact my JKUR Wrangler with the upgraded Alpine system actually sounded better than the Beats in the DSRT[emoji57]

Funny that I didn't mind the Durango GT stereo that I lived with for two weeks. I like the RS5 B&O (I think it's a B&O) stereo a lot, and all it needed was a subwoofer to give it bottom end. The Bose stereo in my 981s was so bad that I eliminated everything but the head unit in order to get the sound I wanted.

I also cross shopped the DDSRT with the JGC TH and I went with the DDSRT. The main thing that sold me was the looks and the interior. I drove a rental JGC for almost a month and never did get used to the looks or the interior. Considering how large the exterior dimensions of the Jeep are, the cargo area is surprisingly small. As far as the exterior goes I just didn't like the looks. Also I felt that the TH should have had a much more aggressive front end and been lower to the ground if it was going to have 707 HP. IMO even the Challenger and Charger have a better front profile than the TH.

When I first drove the DDSRT I was a little disappointed in it's power and like you wished that they made a TH version, but after owning it for about 2wks now I realize it would have never been able to take advantage of that kind of power. It really is a heavier vehicle than the Jeep and handles like it. Only on a drag strip would that much power have been fun.

When I bought my DDSRT I deliberately chose the one dealership in town that bad both the DDSRT and the TH so that I could compare them side by side; needless to say the DDSRT won. I think it also helps though that my weekend and showcar driver is a GTR, so when I want handling and real power I drive my car; when I want to haul trailers, cargo, etc. with just enough power to put a smile on my face I drive my DDSRT (which is 90% of the time). If I did not have the GTR and had to have a single vehicle for both daily driving and weekend driving then this would have been a much harder decision.

At the end of the day I'm pretty happy with my choice and this front end is what sealed the deal for me:

All good responses. In addition to replacing the RS5 as my DD, I am trying to shed the need for my pickup truck which I mainly use to run back and forth from our weekend place. Most of the time the truck just sits in the driveway. My wife hates to drive the pickup b/c it is such a PITA to park. It's a pig on gas (gas and all other costs for my company car being "free"), but there are times that having an open truck bed is really convenient. I do have a trailer big enough to haul a couple of ATV's, and will see if an SUV with a trailer is a suitable replacement for the pickup. I could always rent a pickup from Home Depot for those times when a pickup is absolutely necessary. One thing I am trying to avoid with my DD is the driving experience of my wife's X5. It handles nicely and is generally comfortable, but the interior always seems cramped to me and the power delivery sometimes has me yearning to leap out the door rather than suffer another minute behind the wheel. All first world problems I guess.

Sooooooooooooooo. After much internal debate, I finally decided on the Durango. I really want the extra utility and three row seating. Besides, I have a drop top for those days that I need something different. I visited Dodge's website to build my car and find out that they no longer have a leasing program for the SRT. I haven't contacted my preferred dealer about this yet, but does anyone know if Dodge intends to bring back the leasing program for the Durango? Thanks!

Finally, the lease on my RS5 ended and I was free to get my DD SRT. I found the last one in NJ with all the options I wanted. I then proceeded to drive it 600 miles to West VA with my teenage son and his friends and practically lived out of the car for a week. After having logged 1,300 miles in a week, I must say that the SRT did not disappoint. The entertainment center kept the boys amused (hooking an Xbox to the system really helped), and the driving dynamics of the vehicle kept me amused. Cheers.

Next lets compare a Pinto to a Ferrari!!!!
