Well I have a 2000 5.9 D with 239,907 miles on it. So how many miles can I expect to get out of this engine.
OK I know there are many factors involved with this question. Like regular maintenance. But how well is this engine built?
I have put some repairs on hold as not sure if it will go the distance. Thoughts.
and Thanks.

my '98 has 212K+ 4x4 and will still light the tires at will , anyone interested I need to get rid of it,multiple consecutive seizures have left me w/o the use of my hands and I just got 6 months to a year to live so I wanna head back to the Rockies about 13+kft to die in peace, will use money to get medical equipment and fix trans in 88 Burb XL w/ Travel Quest custom interior oak package. I will miss my 4x4 and hate to drive a bowtie but its cheaper to drive 610 miles to tank vs 357+ in Dodge. Unless anyone has any other ideas, open to suggestions.

We had one gen1 that I believe hit over 400k miles.

Thanks for all of your comments. If I Could get even 100k more miles out of it, that would be great. It does burn some oil but not at a fast rate and the engine still has some get up and go. I did tow a small travel trailer for a few summers before I sold it. so over all my D was not under to much stress. The transmission was rebuilt at 100k so I think i'm good there.
The one main issue I have is the exhaust manifold has a leak causing it to run rich. I'm thinking fix it.

They're a good design. So were the magnum 3.9L V6. Construction standards used to vary a lot more than they did then to now due to assy line automaton, but for any engine from anybody but Toyota, I'd say anything over 200K is wonderful. Toyota's 22RE 4-Cylinder of the last decade was one of the best engines in the history of internal combustion. Generally-speaking, they literally had to be abused before they'd grenade with less than 200K on them. I think they're sill in-production today, but not 100% sure about that.
I'd just keep up the meticulous maintenance it's obviously gotten, and keep on truckin until ---

Compared to how much we had to do to our v-8's prior to 1980 or later we have come a long way. Valves needing to be ground at 50k, timing chains needing to be done at 45k, engines that the manufacturer said to bring back in if it didn't use a quart of oil every 1000 miles. And let's not forget our wonderful interference fit 4 cylinders that made you rebuil the engine after blowing a timing belt/chain. I pretty much think that our new engines are extremely reliable.

My D1 ('99) has 268K miles, and is our backup vehicle (though it's currently sitting with a dead battery). It seems that the engine (5.2L V8) will outlast everything else on that vehicle, and still runs quiet and smooth. Since getting D2 (2017 SXT) earlier this year, I promised the Spousal Unit that any repair on D1 over $500 would be the end of it. It will be a sad day indeed.

I have a 98 Durango that ran to 195,000 miles and it started losing oil pressure. 5.9 or 318ci. At first I thought it was a bad sensor but the engine failed rather spectacularly after about 6 months of the oil pressure showing 38 psi then dropping to 0. I found out that oil sludge is a real problem with this engine.
I had the engine and transmission rebuilt and it runs great. I also rebuilt the frontend and ac system. It drives like new again. I did have them put in a higher performance oil pump and the oil pressure is slightly higher, and the pump delivers higher volume.
