Anyone had to replace their starter? Mine is acting up and I think I need to do it soon. How hard is it and any special tools needed? I do have the skid plates and not sure they need to come down first? Any help would be great.

I'm not sure of the starter itself but You do need to drop the Skid Plate to get to it. You'll probably need a swivel socket on your socket extension to make it a bit easier.
Not that bad of a Job it seems by looking at FSM

I don't have the tools anymore to get to it?plus with two young kids now, I just don't have the time to mess around with something I may not get fixed right.

I understand
I also have 2 Little Girls and Saturday I'm not going to show my truck at Carlisle because they asked me to take them to an Event.
Some times its just more convenient to get it done

I had my starter replaced 3 weeks ago because it'd only start when it wanted to, it cost about $298 parts and labor, the dealership should run you about $330 or so, but if you have a mechanic that you know should run a little lower.

I didn't have a problem until about a month ago and then it'd take about 5 turns of the ignition to start the car. Thought it was the battery, check and scrubbed that, replaced the post connectors. Then went after the starter. Took them about an hour to replace. Everything works great now.

Is the solenoid & starter a single unit now or as in the old days you could change either as the solenoid rode on top of the starter motor?
