My experience so far with trying to update the Maps via H.E.R.E in my '14 Charger has been a joke! I am on thumb drive #2, and they are pretty useless when it comes to trying to help.
The standard response is that they have "elevated the issue" to an engineering group at FCA who apparently could give a rats ass about it. I started the process August 2nd. I am giving them until October 1st, and then requesting a refund after that. All of the sales folks I have spoken with are very polite and apologetic, but after a while that gets old.

When I use this page, mine uses option 2 which leads to the page to order the map update.

Many thanks, yet another case of an inaccurate Web page.
THIS IS WRONG...Informational page is not correct. Try inputting your Durango, year, and radio type (A/AN). You will see an available updated 2017 map.

I think it is a safe bet that the digital map file is tied to the original VIN and useless to anyone else.
Yes, it ties to your VIN. I received the update and had to register via a web site, which forces the user to obtain an activation code by entering your radio software version and vehicle VIN.

So how is the update? I too and running the original map pack for my 2014 R/T and it is way out of date, and considering making the purchase. Was it worth it?

Factory nav is BS. I should be entitled to a free map update on my ‘16 since the map data that came with the vehicle was already far outdated. Thanks FCA!!!

I just use my phone. Put a vent magnet clip. I find that it takes way too much time to input the address. I have a 17 with navigation. And its definitely not as accurate than google maps. Which is free btw.
