Looking to tap into the switched 12v plug in the center console to hardwire a dash camera. Anyone have instructions on how to access it?:???:

I found the write-up on running into the under hood fuse clock with a fuse-tap but I can't fit my arm down into the hole under the hood to pull wires.

Have also looking into doing a mirror-tap but I need it stepped down to 5v for the camera.

I put a dash cam in my 15 SXT. What I did was mounted the camera behind the mirror, and ran the power lead under the edge of the headliner, down the passenger a-pillar, and up under the dash to the outlet under the center stack. Just an option for you; seemed a lot easier than taking apart the center console. I also tried to fish wires from the engine compartment, but that tiny opening on the engine side was just too small to try to access. May have to find a 4 year old with small hands to help me get the wiring through the firewall someday. LOL

I've already routed the wiring as you have done and just have it sitting behind the glove box for now. What do you mean the outlet under the center stack? Are you referring to the 12v switched plug? Or something else?

Yes, the 12v switched outlet to the left of the USB/SD card slot. Tucked the power lead up under the lower edge of the center stack. There's a small gap/seam between the floor console and the bottom of the HVAC area. The power lead is tucked up in this gap, runs under the soft cover above the passenger foot well over to the door frame and up to the A-pillar. Had to pull the door frame trim loose a bit to get it tucked in up towards the A-pillar. Only part of the wiring that shows is about 3" or so where the power lead comes out from under the seam under the HVAC controls to the power socket, and about 3" or so where the lead comes out of the headliner to the camera. It's a bit hard to explain, but if you feel around where the center stack hangs out over the storage bin below the HVAC controls, you will feel the seam between the panels.

I pulled the side panel on the center console and there is a gray connector with a pink/yellow wire that is the power to that outlet. It was easier to get to the wire there and try and get to the plug behind the outlet itself, for me anyway.

FYI, on my '17 the top of the center console pops right off. Was able to tap into 12v switched power on a harness under there.

Other options here. I Was gonna hardwire a dash cam to the mirror, already wired 2 pins from the main board of the power supply it came with to access the mirror for a switched 12V source. Power supply itself can stay inside the plastic trim of the mirror stem, usb wire going out to the camera. What I ended up with is a really long USB to mini-USB cord connecting the camera to the USB port in the back of the center console. This way the dash cam actually stays on for 10 minutes after ignition off, like having a short parking feature.

Did this on my 2014, and still works the same on my 2018. Just open the arm rest, and pull straight up on the plastic piece for the center console, should pop right out.

I got lazy this time and routed everything via the headliner, passenger pillar, glove box and then center console. Finally fished it through to the 12v switched outlet and plugged it in. This is the one to the left of the 2 usb outlets in that cubby hole area in front of the shifter.
