I know wiring not mechanical so?

I have a 99 5.2L D with off road package, so a lot of skid plates under the carraige. Where can I find the starter, my D is having some problems not turning over, and also where can I find the starter solenoid? a diagram would be appreciated or description, thank you very much.

When you say having trouble staring tell us more!
Is it just clicking or is it doing nothing.

Starter is visible in through the driver's side wheel well, solenoid is part of the starter.

There's also a starter relay in the PDC (power distribution center) under the hood.

tell us more!

Has the battery been checked? How old? Before you think it's the starter or sol check the battery, if you haven't done so already.

If you're getting nothing at all 1st replace that relay which is cheap, then check and clean all your wire connections at Starter and Battery.

Hello Evan,

If you start the car and hear nothing but a signle click and all lights are good and then after a few tries all of a sudden it starts like nothing was wrong, you're experiencing what I called and had a post on "Puzzling intermittent starting problem."

Dealer replaced the starter for me to fix it. So far so good?

Best regards,
Mohamd.

more to add sorry for the short descriptions

I'm having the same problems as this member had, http://www.durangoclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=63985&highlight=inter+starter#63985

I cleaned the battery both connectors and posts, checked the voltage, even tried jump starting it to see if there was a problem there. No start would occur.

I then tried finding the starter, but well, I didn't know where it was so went to option 2.

Tried to find the clicking sound, it seemed as if it was coming from the ABS thing on the driver fender, or near the fuse box under the hood, but I couldn't pin point location.

I took it to the mechanic and they said my starter was going, battery checked out fine and when they went to check the voltage on the starter, he said it'd blow the 20 amp circuit breaker in the meter, every time it was started.

I have ordered a new starter and will go in tomorrow, but I'm still wondering what went wrong?

It could be the starter we're just giving you other things to check before dropping $$ on an expensive part

Time for a new mechanic, I think. Sounds like he's measuring voltage with the meter set to measure current.

That'll do it every time!
Biggest mistake by HVAC techs as well setting meter on wrong scale or setting. POOF!

Just replied to your other post, but with this added info I'm betting the engine is seized. Sounds like water got in.
