So, one of my co-workers asked me if I was aware of the dents in my truck. We went out and he pointed out 2 spots in the right rear panel, between the glass and the roofline, where there appear to be dents in the metal. The surface is definitely not smooth and you can see the light refracted in the those spots. A smaller spot exists on the left rear panel closer to the front of the glass.
Dealer wants me to bring it in so they can take care of it. Not sure what they can do at this point. It isn't obvious unless you know they are there, which I do now.
Anyone else see something similar in their body panels?

I was detailing mine today & noticed that on my Q-panels as well.

Also found a blue splotch under the pass. side q-panel window about the size of a walnut. Not sure what that is, would not buff out tho I didn't work it too hard. It's very subtle and seems to be under the clear coat, will keep an eye on it, but doubt I'd have them try to correct it.

Also, be careful applying pressure to the area behind the front fenders just over the crease that matchs the door crease. I literately pushed that in on the drivers side trying to get off some of the black goo crud. Lucky for me it 'popped' back out & seems OK, but the metal is obviously VERY thin there and if pushed against hard enough might just permanently 'dent' :(

Mike,

Do you have yours in the same spot? Right side only or left as well?

My 2014 R/T had a drop of paint under the clear coat that I didn't notice for over 2years because it was on the rear edge of the roof. Like if the paint hadn't dried and started to run. Easy for a QC inspector to miss, I guess.

My guess would be body seam not filled properly.

Mine is on the pass. side, midway in the small flat part that flanks the rear window. It is something pushing out from inside (like a fastener pushed in to far?).
There are tons of paint defects on mine. Lots of small paint nibs on the roof & 1 on the hood. The level of orange peal is like a throw back to the '80's and there are paint runs along the edges of both back doors. I had them correct the drivers side rear door as that had a rather large blob, but I decided to not have them mess with the edges.

If it's something most owners are experiencing, I think I'm just going to pass on them trying any kind of fix and maybe making it worse. The dealer I bought it from is almost an hour away and I don't think this will be something they can fix while I wait. But I think I will take a closer look at any Durango I come across now.

When I had the ceramic coating done last week I asked the guy how the paint was and he said it was actually pretty good. He only found 2 sand marks that he needed to clean up.

Hopefully the paint has improved since 2014. Mine has serious orange peel like it was sprayed from a Wagner Power Painter.
Lucky for me its bright white so its not really noticeable until under garage lights...but still way worse than my '06 300 paint which is like glass compared to my D.

My 17 has the some of the worst factory orange peel I’ve ever seen but not worse than a brand new 17 SRT Jeep I saw at the dealership a while back. I’d be embarrassed to be seen in that thing, and the sticker was a little under $80k. Once I saw that I didn’t feel as bad about my cellulite looking paint.

If it really bothers you, you might want to try a local PDR guy & see if he can 'work' it out. I had a weird indentation on the roof of a new Mustang a few years back. It was hard to see, but bugged me & I didn't trust the dealer goons. A PDR guy did the trick for $70.

That's what I'm hoping the dealer does. I don't want a body shop messing with it, especially after I had the ceramic applied.

So, a visit to the dealer revealed that EVERY Durango on their lot has a slight dent in the panel near the front edge of the glass. The owner's SRT was on the lot and that one has a small deformation in the panel at the rear, where the downward curve starts around the glass. It appears it is something inherent to these. However, my two dents are the biggest out of the 5 we looked at. And they are in a spot where the PDR guy says he can't his tools into to pop it out.

I will check with a local PDR guy and see if they say the same thing. Any suggestions from you guys would be appreciated. Including if I should just let it go and allow this to be the thing that sets my DD SRT apart...
