Can some of you Durango owners help me out?

I'm planning on getting an SRT and making a camper out of it...yes, I'm serious about that.

Couple of questions:

- is it possible to completely (easy) remove the third row?

- same with second row, captain chairs, but only if it can be easily done

- if I put a wooden board at the widest part of the cargo area (about middle height, so I can store stuff under it), how wide and long could it be?

The third row, yes. The SSV trucks don’t have a 3rd row, and instead have a storage area. There is a thread about it.

2nd row captains chairs aren’t “easy” to remove, but they probably can be. You can flip them up, but they don’t lock in that position (which sucks).

As for length and width, it’s probably 6x3.5 or so from rear gate to front seats.

Out of curiosity, why the SRT for this?

Well...have you ever seen a 475hp camper? :p

That's why ;-)

I could get a VW T6 California, but everybody has one of these in Europe.

And the SRT certainly handles better on winding roads...

I suppose that’s as good a reason as any. I guess I envision campers as being... more utilitarian. A $70k USD street-oriented suv seems an odd choice. But whatever tickles your pits.

There is a chance you could fabricate some kind of rear-seat flip lock so they stay up when you are parked. The way they are now, they only roll forward for rear seat ingress/egress, and fall pretty easily. And they are HEAVY. I really wouldn’t want them to fall while asleep.

Another option would be to build a platform that abuts the seat backs when folded forward (but not up). You would be able to have storage that way, and still be able to use the 2nd row as usual.

It's definitely going to be a platform to store stuff under it.

Of course, other campers have more utility, but their just not fun to drive...

I took my D on a 2k mile road trip a while back and spending much time camping inside of it gets old, fast. I did have a free standing tent I spent time in also but a good option is one of the tents that is made for connecting to an SUV at the liftgate. Tent and SUV become one. Pretty cool.

Are you in Europe?

That makes a huge difference in the discussion.. "camping" is very different in Europe...

Yes, Switzerland

Oh and btw...to get the SRT Rango here it will set me back at least 85k US.
But then again, wages are different too.

There is a dealer here which will have the '18 R/T coming week. So I'll be able to take measurements.
