I HAVE HEARD GREAT tHINGS ABOUT THEM.

Good sotry, thanks. I've seen similar-type studies and reports out there and they all pretty much say the same thing: That Mobil 1 and K&N are made by the same company and are very closely matched and are the best off the shelf. Purolator 1 makes a good filter but isn't as high flowing. And finally, that the newer Amsoil EA style filter is the best around.

Hadn't seen anything anywhere on this reusable one?sounds good and looks nice but I don't know.
 
It's a good idea on cleaning, reusing & not throwing away a used filter, It works for air filters, but for oil, hmm
 
Although of a different type filteration system, the Navy has used a re-usable filter for their engines for decades. They use a centrifugal filtration system and cleanable cones. Doesn't seem to effect their engine life at all.
 
I didn't see the numbers on how small that stainless steel mesh filters. However, it doesn't look as tightly packed as I'd want it.

Acquition price is high, what's the cost of the recommended cleaner they want you to use on it? There'll be an ongoing cost on it so it's not once-and-done on the purchase price.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. On their websit they say they have an "absolute rating" of 35 microns so nothing bigger than that'll make it through, ever, is how its supposed to be anyhow.

MWeed is right, I have seen similar setups on military applications before and that's what got me curious about this particular filter. As far as thaty cleaner?I don't know. They say they include some with your filter and they talk about needing it on their site but I didn't see where to buy it. I assume they'd include an order form with it but that's just speculation.

I dunno?it's interesting but as far as being willing to take a risk, I don't think I'm.
 
Keep in Mind 500 Microns fits on the tip of a sharpened pencil
So 75 Microns is real small

True, its not like it'll be in there passing kidney stones. What got me looking at this was the possibility for increased oil pressure and better flow, something I know a lot of D engines suffer from. The reviews on Autoanything are real positive but the long-term would be good to know.

I know they state this filter is used for racing applications because it's high-flowing and keeps the pressure up but I also know racing engines are torn down right away. Maybe repair shop somewhere has come across these?
 
The problem with something like that's, by the time you reaslize you have a problem, the damage is already done. Then try and collect on the warranty.

Any of you "mature" folks remember the filter that used a roll of toilet paper? Do you also remember that engines were damaged when the tiolet roll broke down and clogged the oil passages with paper shreds?
 
Jimbo, you're referring to the old Amsoil filters, that I remember from the 50's/60's when there were no spin-on filters. That's why I have always been a sceptic of anything that came from them, with that logic being used. Saw many an engine die due to wood fibers plugging things.

One way of cleaning this new one is to use diesel fuel. It'll work very well. Although they mention carb and brake cleaner as an alternative to their cleaner.
 
I think I may try it out my main concern will be after the first use and cleaning how stout its made to allow for multiple dissasemblies and reassemblies

I'm thinking of trying it too if even just for awhile to see if really does help with oil pressure. I suppose if a bunch of crud breaks loose, you'll know it upon filter cleaning. Not sure how it'll hold up either, but, LIFETIME WARRANTY. I noticed if you order direct from the manufacturer they make different colored housings and that would be a nice dress-up. I checked out the company and product names on ripoffreport.com and didn't find anything there but the BBB site lists them at a "D" rating. They apparently had one consumer complaint and they didn't answer it. It doesn't say what the complaint was.

I'll sleep on it before spending any money but I'm of the opinion that I've spent more on riskier or dumber things than this.
 
I'm either doing this or changing to a remte filter set up as the 4.7 filter is terrible to do

I'm thinking of giving it a try, too. I think it might help the system flow better and get the good oil moving around and get some of whatever junk is in there, out. It'd at least give me an idea of hwo dirty my system is I'd think.

First of all, the statistics previously mentioned regarding engine wear haven't changed. 60% of all engine wear is caused by particles between 5 and 20 microns. Unfortunately, most oil filters on the market today are lucky to remove even a small percentage of particles under 30 to 40 microns. This, again, leaves most of the harmful debris in your oil.

What again was the filtering capability of that RP 2 part permanent unit?
