hello everyone!
I have a question regarding the rear drum brakes, my rear brakes when I hit them when I'm sitting still not moving, if I apply then and let them off I hear a slight screaking noise, there are new brakes on there, could it be something that needs greased?
thanks

When the shoes were replaced did you do them?
Did you install new rear hardware? Did you lube up the backing plate where needed?
Could be that or just the springs in there squeaking

I installed them myself, but I didn't grease the backing plate?oops?
I reused the old hardware, should I have gotten new?
can the backing plate still be greased without taking the brakes back off?
thanks

You can pull the drum off and use a qtip or something just pull shoes away from backing plate use some white lithium grease or equivalent where they slide against plate also where any part of the mechanism moves

also check the adjustment, might just be too much shoe movement? the shoes shouldn't really move a lot when properly adjusted?

Rear drum shoe adjustment is also what controls the brake pedal height. If pedal is too low, try adjusting your rear drums a bit.

Good point they could be slapping around in there misaligning themselves

After cleaning them upand sliding the drums back on go thru rubber plug in backing plate with a Brake spoon and spin the adjuster it'll click as it tightens. Spin the drum until it provides just a bit of resistance.
You can do this with the tires on as well by jcking up rear of D and spinning tires, snug em up till they just drag when you spin the wheel and tire.

When using new or turned drums, I knormally adjust until the the drum barely slides on over shoes, then add a couple more clicks for good measure.

Same here almost where I have to force them over the shoes!
saves a bit of time
