Does anyone know if the 02-03 overhead computer console is compatible with an 01? Obviously it'd fit there, but I was wondering if anyone knew if the wiring, etc was compatible? My overhead works just fine in my 01 but I like the 02's look and features a lot better. Thanks!

It should work fine

The first one is the 02-04 version. The second is for 98-01. Besides having a different button layout, not much difference except that the newer one offers an Instantatious Fuel Economy function. I'm just not sure if the wiring and computer settings will mesh if it's changed out.

That shouldn't be right.

The '98-'00 interior is the same.

The '01-'03 interior is the same.

'04 is a completely different D, from Gen1 to Gen2 and won't be cross compatible at all.

The '00 to '01 interiors are different since that's the cut over year. You have your years off by one above in each subgroup.

Within each multiyear subgroup above, the difference should be the inclusion of Homelink or not. Other than that? nada else that I'm aware of. (Homelink opens garage doors, etc)

Initially you mentioned '01 to '02 and that should pose you no problems.

Well I guess that serves me right than to trust the seller of these things. Think I'd know better but?I guess that's why I'm here. Good info, thanks. Looks like it'll work then. I've got Homelink in mine already and I think this will work out just fine as far as a swap over to a newer looking style.

You'll just have to reprogram your Homelinks

Thanks guys. I got some more info on the issue. I guess the newer style console itself is smaller for the later models and could leave a gap in the headliner. However, the units themselves would be fully compatible and interchangable, you just have to come up with a fix for the headliner issue.

I'll try and see if I can't find one at a junkyard and take some measurements and see.

That's correct the mount for the overhead is cut thru Headliner.
I just had mine down to Install Black Suede.
To use the different year overhead you'll have to design a goof type plate to cover the entire opening then open it for the new one

I happen to have a little info on this topic.

The '98 to '00 are the same in the way they're wired and how the information is delivered to the overhead console.

The 2001 has the same foot print as the earlier three years but it runs through a bus sytem and is completely different in how the information is gathered and delivered.

2002 is the same as the 2001 in the wiring but the foot print is completely different?the '02 is wider and maybe only a little more than half as long though?if you have an '01, the '02 front mount points are the same but it's so much shorter than the '01 you'll need to do serious magic with the headliner to cover the hole that'll be left uncovered with the '02 overhead console in place.

As far as the 2003 I don't know?seems to me that the electronics were the same (from something I either read or heard) but I don't have any first hand knowledge or experience with the '03.

I hope that helps.

Very cool, thank you. I'm wondering if I could do some trimming and just use my 01 housing and fit the 02 display in there. Wiring being the same makes it easy but I'm not too much on interior magic. I'll have to see one and compare it to what I've got and see what can be done to aviod that big gap.

I should also clarify that the connectors aren't likely to be the same?you might have to ID the diferent wires on each year and move them around in the connector?just dso you're aware.

If someone has an '02 FSM and can give the connector layout I can compare it to my '01 FSM.

Awesome, thanks. I'll go to the dealer and use their 02 FSM and have them copy the diagram for me. Better yet they may have a couple of the units I can look at to compare connectors?

let us know how you do I'm sure we have a few with fsm that could help you out

I'm bringing a old thread back to life as I'm trying to find the writeup for dohio's install. Is this the correct one? I'm trying to figure out which wires he used for the install? Thanks.
