Recently upon cold starts in the morning, I hear a tick from the engine. Lasts about 5-7 seconds. Out here in CA these days, the overnight lows are high 40's to low 50's, so the engine warms up quickly. When engine is warm, no such tick at start up. In my old 4.7 Durango, a header leak had a higher pitch ticking noise. This tick sounds a bit more subdued.

Am I heading in the right direction thinking it is a header leak? 31k miles and oil level is perfect. Thanks for your thoughts.

Could be a lift that's sticking alittle. Do you run Dino or Synthetic? How many files do you have on this current oil. My '07 Hemi will lifter tick if I drive it a few miles stop and start it.

This is a pretty normal sound for a 345 cube Hemi

Sherlock:
It is possible that your sound could be an exhaust leak, as the Hemi's are notorious for broken/loose exhaust manfold bolts.
There have also been a number of issues regarding a ticking sound at start up, as well as another noise considered to be a "normal" sound for these engines.

My 04 Hemi Durango does make what I would described as a soft ticking noise during normal operation. While I have not listened expressly for it on my '14 Hemi Charger, it would not surprise me to find it.

A ways back, a neighbor in the market for a Hemi Grand Cherokee invited me to tag along. We ended up driving a '14 JGC Hemi RWD with less than 200 miles on it. When the salesman pulled it around from behind their building, there was quite the loud lifter tapping sound. We inquired about it, and were told that it was "normal" for a late model Hemi engine at start up after sitting a while.
We got in, fired it up, and the sound which was quite alarming for a brand new engine went on for another 30-60 seconds. We took turns driving it for about 15-20 minutes without hearing the sound again.

The sticker on this JGC was $40K plus, and only RWD. While I am indeed a Chrysler/Dodge fan, there is no way I would accept that such a sound was proper on a brand new engine! Yours at 31K is still like new, so I would look into it while under warranty.

I have a 13 and I live in a cold area. I dont notice any ticking at start up, but i have noticed a ticking nice as I come down to a stop. Then it stops. I'm wondering if its just the stock exhaust note as i have heard people say it sounds a bit ricey at times.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty anal about my oil and filter changes. Presently 1800 miles on Penzoil Ultra Syn and Mobil One filter. I had to run out again after my post and with the engine oil temp showing 161, there was a slight tick at start up. After reverse was engaged, the ticking sound was more pronounced. Would an exhaust leak noise increase in volume when additional strain is introduced to the engine and at 161 oil temp? Sound did stop after 10 or so seconds.

Yes.
Additional strain should make an exhaust leak more pronounced.
Have you checked your Corsa exhaust for possible loose clamps or signs of leaks?

Also I've noticed quieter start ups switching to the factory mopar oil filter from a aftermarket filters including the PureOne.
You can easily change the oil filter without loosing much oil, (1/2 qt.) to eliminate that from contention.

In my case (2013 Durango Citadel), the root cause of the noise turned out to be the All Wheel Drive /Four Wheel Drive Module (Part # 56029423AK), and it was covered under warranty because my vehicle has 89,000 miles. It was a loud ticking noise that sounded like valve lifters or tappets.

Yep I have. 2014 Hemi and just had the ticking problem. It was 3 broken manifold bolts on the passenger side.

I have a 2017 RT and just started the tick on cold starts at 60,000kms. I had a 2007 5.7 Hemi with same issue and it was the exhaust manifold issue (fixed under warranty). My 17 is at the dealership tomorrow to investigate and repair. I suspect it’s the same. These engines are notorious for this problem
