Had a funny thing happen today. I was pulling out of a side street and mashed the pedal (just wanted to hear the roar), as the D wound up and got going, it FORGOT TO SHIFT! I hit the rev limiter and backed off. Everything seemed fine afterward.

Anyone have anything similar happen?

I don't think I have ever had an auto tranny not shift into 2nd before?

has happened to me a few times. I should say more than a few times, more than I like. Now I ease off the gas when I want it to shift. Sorry I don't have more helpful info.

Could be nothing and an isolated incedent. That's what happened to me. If it continues or gets worse, its probably the Governor Pressure Solenoid. It generates pressure so the tranny upshifts and downshifts.

If it gets to that, I have repair notes/info.

I've had the same the happen a couple of times a while back when my TPS (throttle position sensor) was going. At highway speeds, I'd need to back off the throttle for it to shift. After cleaning the TPS, the problem never reoccurred. I believe there was some other post a while back where someone also suggested the problem was related to a dirty/faulty TPS.

Since it's a 5.9L/46RE drivetrain, the governor pressure solenoid is probably the culprit.

On a 4.7L/545RFE drivetrain, then a TPS issue could most likely be suspect.

Hey

San D did you have that fluid changed out yet
I'm willing to bet the wrong stuff is in there from when you bought the D.
Get that checked out before more damage happens.
I agree that's most likely Gov Solenoids acting up.

Sometimes the governor tends to stick on these trannies. Another reason to keep the fluid fresh. If the problem continues, I'd adjust the kickdown cable as that's usually the culprit in a continual shift problem.

mine turned out to be the Mopar PCM. I swapped it out and it fixed the problem. it happened 2 or 3 times and scared me pretty bad since I didn't notice it until things went way too high? I swapped it with my flashed PCM and it never did it again?

would this also be culprit as to why mine takes longer than I would like it to shift sometimes? they'res days OD takes several seconds to drop in even with the vehicle fully warmed up. a tranny flush is in the near future as well since my D has 112K on it. had 96K when I bought it 11 months ago, lol.

I'm with MWeed on this one? search for "throttle valve cable" or "TVC" and fiddle a bit with the adjustment.

What happens is that the transmission shifts are controlled by a fight between governor pressure (in the old days directly controlled by road speed, in an RE tranny controlled by the PCM), and the throttle pressure (controlled by the throttle valve, on the end of the throttle valve cable, which connects to the throttle valve in the throttle body, which connects to your right foot)? if the TVC adjustment is off, the PCM can't get enough governor pressure up at WOT to cause a shift before you bounce off the rev limiter.

Pres,

Haven't gotten to change the fluid yet, the Tranny shop wanted 5 bills to do the service! Tranny, t-case,front and rear diff.
I'll just have to find somewhere in this crazy state (CA) where I can do it myself without the Enviro police attacking me.
For those of you who don't live here, I have been yelled at for washing my car, using tire dressing, and for WAXING! my cars!
Some people are a bit overboard. I want clean beaches as much as the next, but come on?

Sorry for the rant. Got off on a tangent there for a bit, but I'm back to reality now.

For 5 bills, let the dealer do it. Otherwise, it's a less than $200 deal most independant transmission service places.

Maybe a few of our LA, Cali brothern will chime in on where they get it done. For the dollar savings, it may be worth a drive.
