I think part of the reason it just doesnt look right as is, is because of the shape of the hood itself, It curves up to the windshield, I think if it was a strait seem it would look ok if you keep the middle blacked out, then black out the inner part of the pillars to match and the roof that would looks sweet as hell.

I would either do a black roof while leaving the hatch and hood red or some sort of stripes.
Stripes like the Mopar edition Dodges have would look good, so would rally stripes. I saw a Challenger this morning with a shaker stripe but no shaker and did not like it
