I don't know if this happened in my front end accident or is just coincidence, but now I have a pulley or bearing noise that's getting worse. I've read a lot of the threads here but still am not sure if it's A/C pump noise, fan clutch, or something else. I've linked a short video, maybe someone can listen and identify the sound.

Thanks for any help with this.

For some reason the link doesn't work when you click it, so just cut and paste it into a browser address and it'll work.

Without having an ear there to hear which area the sound comes from, the video didn't help me. However, it does sound like something is rubbing and/or is working to hard. It's not right? but that you already knew that. Sorry I'm no more help.

I don't know man, but that almost sounds like the waterpump impellar is rubbing because of a bad bearing. BTW you said it was after an accident, did you check to see if your fan isn't hitting the shroud somewhere?

2X agreed. I thought the shroud could be slightly hitting at the bottom/side too. Worth a check.

The fan is spinning clear, that's the first thing I checked. The sound almost seems to be further back than the fan which made me wonder about the water pump, but could it be bad after only 39,000 miles? The accident was so slow speed and mostly left of center that I wouldn't have expected it to affect any rotating gear.

Have you tried the Hose to ear to locate the loudest point (works like a stethiscope)? Be careful with your hands and the fan & belts. It works better than you think.

It shouldn't (emphasize should) be bad after only 39K but "stuff" happens. You could use the hose trick or a mechanics stetoscope to get a close-up of the noise. The water pump isn't that hard to do, only thing that's tricky is the little by-pass hose, other than that it's a piece of cacke.

From the looks of the front end wreck, and now this sound, you have more damage than you know or want to admit. Any number of things in that front end can be skewed and off causing on going damage as the days go on. And if not repaired, will continue to cause problems. If insurance is covering the repairs, add it to the bill. Undoubtedly the issue happen during the wreck or because of the wreck. And that's your story and you'rs sticking to it. :)

That might be the best advice of all. I just spoke to the insurance company, I'll hear fom an adjuster in a day or so to come look at the damage, we'll take it from there. In the meantime I don't know if I should keep driving, I'm going to check if my insurance provides a rental or not.

You could always take the belt off, and spin each component individually, to possibly pinpoint it. Also, start the engine with the belt off and see if the noise is gone.

I didn't realize you could start the engine with the belt off, I thought the alternator had to be spinning for the engine to run. Shows you how much I don't know!

It'll run until the battery runs low, It should also light the battery light on the dash.

My autobody guy, who's also fixing whatever the engine noise is, told me he's sure it's the center idler pulley. Hopefully he's right, but one way or another it's getting fixed as part of the accident damage, as Indy suggested.
